Her best friend was gone. Her best friend who she had just gotten back. Her best friend who had somehow forgiven her for all of her betrayals and atrocities. Her best friend who she loved beyond all time and measure, loved to a degree that only the girl beside her came close to.
And yet Anne was still here, the little toddler outstretched on the bed of leaves before her and Marcy was so distinguishably her. Same warm brown skin, same mess of curls (that even still had leaves caught in them), same eyes alight with joy and wonder.

Since she was a kid, Adora has always known something's been...off. But maybe it was just because she was an orphan, or maybe it was the tremendous amount of pressures placed on her to excel in every area, or it was being raised by Shelia Weaver (aka Shadow Weaver as Catra has so kindly named her) as her foster mother. Either way, Adora knew something was wrong with her. But thankfully she is starting her first year at Brightmoon University with all of her best friends, and no Weaver. Adora's finally free. Taking this newfound freedom she decides to finally try and make sense of her own identity, and maybe finally figure out what exactly it is she has been struggling with her whole life.

Luz makes a surprised chirping noise in the back of her throat and pauses her scribbling to gently touch the inside of Amity’s elbow. 'Sorry if I startled you,' it says, and then she’s back hurriedly scratching on her own paper, tongue sticking out slightly.
It’s the first of their shared gestures that act as a stand in for absent communication, though neither of them note its significance at the time.
Amity huffs in amusement and angles her notebook so it’s easier for the other girl to read.
