It is far too easy, Crowley reflects, to mistake Aziraphale as a helpless, hand-wringing bookshop keeper. It is far too easy to think him prey. Three evil men make the mistake. The angel clenches his fists and there"s a crackle in the air. Crowley can read the signs. And he knows how this is going to end.

One of the best "Aziraphale in full angel mode" fics I"ve read. Dramatic, heroic and terrifying in equal parts. And a wonderful supporting role for Crowley in almost a role-reversal for the two characters. An amazing story fabulously narrated.

A gorgeous revisiting of the conversation between Young and Rush in "Twin Destinies," investigating how Rush almost offlines when Young offers to be one of the twelve people needed to keep Destiny going. I loved that moment in the episode; and I love this story!

These differences between British and American terminology and culture below are all ones I have seen in Sherlock fic or that are likely to come up in Sherlock fic. It is not exhaustive and I know that I will think of or spot at least 10 more as soon as I post this, but it is a start. If you have read fic set in America written by a Brit you will know that these things jar and spoil the flow quite a lot, so here you go.

"I dream of what it"s like," [Sherlock] says with difficulty, and the words taste right in spite of the fact that everything else tastes wrong, "when we leave this place."

John is quiet for an unbearably long while (too quiet: no humming, no breath) before he lets his forehead drop to rest against Sherlock"s, smudge of ash and grit and sweat mixed with something far too heavy to be tears. He presses one hand over Sherlock"s heart, and there"s warmth again. The promise dazzles him. It stings.

"What"s it like?" asks John, finally, his voice thick with the promise of rest.

Sometimes late at night, when all I hear is the sound of Sherlock’s steady breathing beside me, I wonder if the life we have now is my reward for surviving everything that went before. But then Sherlock cries out in the dark, his body sweaty and tangled in the sheets, legs kicking out against some imagined villain, and I wonder how my reward can also be his punishment.

“Come prove to me that you like it, then,” your owner says and together you glide to the jumble of sheets in a corner of the room to perch on top of it. “I’d like to give you a token of my appreciation. That’s good manners, isn’t it? To thank someone when they give you a present?”

    “Sherlock, I said…”

“I heard what you said perfectly well, Mycroft.” His tone is a little peevish. Your sash is unwound again and swept out of the loops. Holding one end in his right hand he starts winding it around his right wrist first, looping it loosely around the left after. When he’s done he falls back onto the bed, raising his arms above his head so your sash is close to those delectable black curls that eddy on top of it. His weight presses your back panel into the sheets. Thank God they’re a decent thread count at least, even though they’re nothing but plain cotton. But oh, how you cherish the brush of all that glorious skin which now rests on top of you.

    Summary

John thinks he should probably explain to Sherlock a few of the finer points of romance. Wine, strawberries, a roaring fire on a winter"s night. Sounds perfect, right? Leave it to Sherlock to find a way to make his own point, instead.

They’d been arguing (“Not arguing, John, we’re having a philosophical debate.”) over the concept of romance for the better part of a week. Sherlock, always direct in his attentions, hadn’t ever seen the point of it if not for shamming someone into doing something he wanted, in which case there were plenty of other ways that were much less complicated or time-consuming. John had just smiled at him and decided after their last go-round that demonstrating would be much more effective than explaining.

And it seems to be working, if the eagerness with which Sherlock opens his lips to accept the sugar-coated berry is any indication. John touches Sherlock’s lower lip with the fruit, leaving a tiny spot of sugar that Sherlock instinctively catches with his tongue. John’s breath hitches at the sight, so he does it again, only for Sherlock to smirk before slowly dragging his tongue across his lower lip.
