‘I’m Doctor Aaron Minyard,’ Aaron said, keeping his voice as light as he could. ‘American Red Cross,’ he added, as green-eyes gave a surprised frown when Aaron spoke.
‘Kevin Day,’ came the reply, and this time Aaron could hear the Irish accent to his words. ‘I’m a captain with the British Army.’
‘And your friend?’ Aaron asked with a nod towards Jean, now asleep and still as Allison worked quietly.
‘Capitaine Jean Moreau, Septième armée.’
Aaron had already started peering at Captain Day’s broken hand, and had to stop himself from looking up in surprise at Kevin’s perfect French accent. Sure, Aaron himself spoke fluent German, but he knew his own accent was appalling: not like Andrew’s, who spoke so convincingly he was now God-knows-where in Germany, passing as a native and gathering valuable intelligence behind enemy lines.
