“Do you really want to risk what you have?”
Sephiroth takes a breath. This is the first question that he doesn’t know how to answer.
He looks out the window. Part of him understands the question. There is a practical simplicity in staying alone. A life where all the controllable factors are his. A life where his kitchen countertops stay clear and his phone remains blissfully quiet. A future where he has retreated and asks for no more.
It had been enough for him.
But Zack Fair was not in the plan. Perhaps it doesn’t matter. Perhaps the suggestions of Angeal, the judgments of Genesis and the stability of Zack have given him something new. He had never expected this situation and now he wants nothing else.
They are asking him if it is worth the risk. Not moving forward, reverting back to where he was before, that is the bigger risk. As long as he has the support of the people who stand by him as he slowly tries to move forward, that is all that matters to him in the end.
It is worth the risk.

Zack rubs his face and tries to move on. They could talk more about this problem later. Zack couldn't abandon his mission to come home to hug Sephiroth no matter how much he wants to.
Sephiroth locks eyes with him on the call. “I do not like the silence tonight.”
And that is how close his pride can get to saying that he misses him.
“I don’t either.”

This is an evolutionary joke that he is attracted to this man. How many times had he fought off the idea of having an alpha as a mate? Surely the horror stories would be enough to ward away anyone.
And here he is worrying about if the bite of this alpha would take.
