Summary

Summary
Donnie blinked at Leo, trying to tighten his loose grip on Leo’s wrist. He had never seen Leo so sad, the pained grimace on his face made Donnie think that his very soul was being ripped in half.
But then again, maybe it was. Because Donnie was leaving him. In the most horrible and final way that he could be leaving him. This was something Donnie could not come back from, nor stop, and it was destroying a huge part of Leo in the process.
Donnie regretted that. He’d never wanted to hurt Leo. His brother. His best friend. His better half. Because Leo had always been that. Leo might not think so, but he’d always been the better of them. Donnie had to let him know that.
He tried to open his mouth. To speak. But his body was refusing to obey him. It was strangely terrifying, yet freeing at the same time. He was feeling less and less connected to his body.
But he couldn’t go yet. Not yet. There was something he had to tell Leo first. Something he had to do.
For as long as Donnie can recall Leo has insisted they are twins, but there is no scientific data supporting Leo"s claim. It just isn"t possible. Is it?

Summary
Blood continued to leak down Donnie’s back, ticklishly pearling in the creases of his knees before continuing on that uncomfortable spiral down to the floor.
And maybe, if he were to really focus, he’d be able to hear the drip-drip-dripping of it splattering along the ground to add to the sickening pool of red that was slowly yet steadily growing larger.
Donnie heaved continuously, trying to mentally will the pained contractions to die down as every new ache that bloomed lit his nervous system anew, eyes finally beginning to dampen with those tardy tears he had searched for earlier.
He knew he hadn"t escaped the Krang unscathed. Knew the ship had done this to him when he was torn free. But it didn"t matter now. There were more pressing matters at hand. He"d be fine.
Donnie never realised he came out of the invasion with a parting gift.

Summary
There were a great many things he could’ve felt in that moment. Guilt for leaving his family with his death in their hands was the logical top contender. Terror, perhaps, for what the rest of his days would look like in a manmade hell with a sadistic killing machine was a close second. Maybe even sadness for the future he’d surely lost could be counted in the running.
All Donnie could bring himself to feel, though, was absolute, overwhelming relief that he was not the one who’d be mourning a twin brother. Leo could hate him for taking his place at the guillotine, Mikey and Raph could curse his very name for leaving them, and Donnie wouldn’t care one bit, for as he watched the portal close, at least he could say he knew his twin was safe on the other side. Nothing else mattered. He didn’t matter, as long as Leo still lived.

The Hamato family remembers they can ninja mind meld while trying to change the future. This changes everything, and it changes nothing at all.
(Or, a sacrifice to stop the end of the world is a universal constant, and Hamato Donatello never claimed he wasn’t selfish.)
