Summary
She dragged him into a hug, impeded somewhat by the added bulk of her boiled-leather breastplate.
Caleb returned it, tucking her head under his chin as he stroked her hair. “Sure you’re okay?” he mumbled into the ever-messy curls.
“Just a bit tired,” she conceded. “Ready to take the fight to that thrice-cursed Banite, though.”
“Only a couple more days, probably,” Caleb soothed. “Then I think we’re due for a few nights in a real bed.”
Eleanor made a sound of pure longing. "Beds. Or even better, a real bath.”
“Coming?” Eri demanded, tapping her foot in impatience as she checked over her hand crossbow. “Or are we taking a day off so you can have a cuddle?”
Caleb huffed out a laugh and pressed a quick kiss to the top of her head. “Love you,” he mumbled before withdrawing.
“Love you too. Ready to go kick some Banite ass?”
The corner of his mouth tugged upwards in a cocky grin. “They won’t know what hit them.”
Or
It's just food poisoning. Right? There's just no way...

Summary
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart, I’m sorry, it’ll be over soon, I just need to get you to Halsin.”
His voice seemed to calm her somewhat, so he kept talking as he moved back towards camp. Paiix’s weight felt like practically nothing with his heart pounding with adrenaline and soul-chilling fear.
“We’ll be there soon, I promise, everything’s going to be fine, I swear it, Paiix, just stay with me, I beg you, I couldn’t, I can’t lose you, sweetheart, just please stay awake.”
Her cries had been heartbreaking, but it was even worse when they began to grow quiet, her breaths more shallow, her voice reduced to weak whimpers of pain. “Gale,” she breathed, so softly he could barely hear it.
“I know, love. I know. I know it hurts. We’ll get to Halsin in a moment, and he’ll heal you, I swear it, you’ll be alright, I promise, love, just hold on, Paiix, I need you to hold on for me.”
Or
Paiix, an elven ranger, is caught in the Shadow Curse and takes a nasty injury

Summary
“But in case you were wondering, I slipped! In a pile of gods-know-what, but it was suspiciously foul. And right in front of my entire bloody crew, at that!”
“That’s unfortunate. But I’m certain your employees wouldn’t hold it against you, that could happen to anyone! Did you consider-?”
Rue whirled to face her husband, her eyes narrowing to slits. She was not in the godsdamned mood for Gale’s rationalizing and making excuses. “Did I consider what? Not slipping in a pile of literal excrement? Maybe having the magic to make it all go away with a snap of my fingers?”
When Gale opened his mouth to make some other undoubtedly tone-deaf remark, she simply tore off her shirt (that had taken the brunt of the mystery puddle’s damage) and threw it right in his face.
And then she stomped up the stairs towards the master bathroom and its promise of glorious magically-heated water and enough overly fancy scented soap to make every occupant of her stables reek of lavender for a tenday.
“Rue?” Gale called after her. She didn’t answer.
Or
Rue has had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, and Gale becomes collateral damage

Summary
“Why’d you stop?” Helaena gasped, twisting around to look at her husband.
The bastard winked, smiled in a just entirely too smug way, and would have seemed wholly unaffected if not for the heat in his eyes. “You were reading, no? Don’t let me interrupt you.”
Helaena could barely remember the title of that damned book, and couldn’t care less if she tried. She tossed it… somewhere, getting off the couch to face Gale, still standing there, casual and nonchalant and utterly insufferable, that bloody smirk still playing at his lips.
“No, really, I’ll get dinner started, there’s no reason to-”
“Oh shut up, would you?” Helaena half-growled, yanking him down by his tie to finally, finally kiss her.
Or
Gale gets home from work and decides to tease his wife in the hopes of achieving a very specific result...

Summary
“Do sit down, boy, and stop looming.”
Gale sat abruptly, eyeing his lover’s grandmother apprehensively.
“Now, since we have a bit of time before my eldest granddaughter joins us, what are you to our Laena?”
“Gran-”
“I’ve no doubt you’ve charmed your way into her bed by now, if you hadn’t already by the time you first came here, but I wish to know your intentions beyond that.”
“Gran!"
“Oh hush, girl, let him answer for himself.”
“I love her,” Gale answered plainly. “My intentions depend entirely on her wishes, but they are most certainly not shallow or hasty.”
Helaena stared into her cup, trying to hide a dopey grin.
“I suppose that will do,” Genna conceded, lips curving in a pleased smile. “Welcome, Gale. Do excuse the mess, there was a spot of bother yesterday.”
Or:
Gale and Helaena survive, but even happily ever after has some twists and turns
