When I was reading some of the fanfics making Deb date whoever else than Ava (and being cruel to her doing so, on purpose) I was thinking: what if... What if Ava would go through a total breakdown after Deborah left her and cut her off. What if she decided to take her own life as some kind of final revenge? What Deborah would feel when she would finally realize that she's not only the one who got hurt, so many years ago, but she's only the one inflicting pain on someone she actually cares for...
