"Exile still seems the best option, Stoick..."

Stoick should have known better. While he didn't know much about his son-especially now-he knew the boy was clever. It should have been no surprise when a guard burst into the Council Meeting and revealed that Hiccup had escaped the cell Stoick put him in...hours after the boy was revealed to have saddled a dragon.

Hiccup is gone, and so is the beast.

They search, but do not find him. Berk falls asleep one night and awakens in the Great Hall, where the torches come to life and cast an image of their isle on the wall, from which floats Hiccup's voice, years younger.

AKA, Hiccup forfeited the final challenge, leaving Astrid with the right to kill the Nightmare. Story picks up in the Race to the Edge era, except Berk never learned the truth of dragons, no one knows how Hiccup really lost his leg, and stories of a hooded 'vigilante' riding a Night Fury have been long whispered...and Berk will see it all unfold.

Stoick the Vast and Berk watch How to Train Your Dragon...and beyond.

    Summary

Pale as a ghost, Peeta climbs the steps. It’s so silent in the Square that I hear the wood creak. The tears are streaming down his face now. Curling his hands into fists along his sides, he takes his place next to me. Finally, reality sinks in, crushing me. I’m not going to wake up.

They want me to kill the boy with the bread. They want me to kill the boy I love.

    Summary

The sound of hammering fists on the door of his cupboard pulls Harry from the edges of sleep, and the piercing shrieks his aunt is directing through the grate makes him wish he had the ability to fall into an eternal slumber. “Boy! Get out here and help me make breakfast!” It never fails to surprise him how much Petunia sounds like a bird, those green and blue budgies you find in a pet shop, so sharp and shrill he fears for his eardrums. “I won’t ask Twice, boy! If you’re not out here in thirty seconds I’ll fetch Vernon!”

Harry breathes out a sigh. Petunia is one thing… Vernon is something else entirely. Threats to do with his uncle are not something to be taken lightly, the last thing Harry wants is to start his day with a black eye or broken ribs. So, he sits up on his rickety cot, careful to avoid whacking his head on the ceiling of the cupboard, and calls back as politely as he can, keeping all traces of annoyance or anger safely tucked away from his words and tone. “Coming aunt Petunia! Sorry Aunt Petunia.”

Or Harry lives with the Dursleys, finds a magical snake, and goes to Hogwarts. But this is not the Harry Potter Dumbledore expected...

One of the most important rules that Leon had passed on to Arthur was to be as ready as possible in every possible situation.

Being a prince was a great responsibility, he had said, and always being ready for any occasion was Arthur’s sacred duty as protector of the kingdom and its citizens.
