Lili rolled her eyes.

"Do you have any idea what it means?" Saejima asked. Majima didn't look at Saejima. He kept his eye trained on the buildings slowly becoming silhouettes as night crept into Kamurocho.
"Not a clue." He replied. He wracked his brain for a few intense moments and sighed hard in exasperation. His heart hurt with that same distant hope from Osaka long ago. Majima thought he would never have to feel that again. "But it's gotta mean somethin', yeah?! Kiryu-chan wouldn't've gone to all the trouble to leave that screwy clue if he didn't want me to find it!"
"Kiryu wasn't a man who did anything needlessly." Saejima agreed he turned his head to look at his brother. "But why? Does he want you to go to Sado? If so, what's there?"
"I don't know. But I'm gonna find out."

"God...What a thought. Hard to see myself as any part of a home. If I'm honest, I never really thought I was worthy of it. That's for stand-up guys." Majima sighed, all at once tired.
"You built a home for orphans on your own dime. You are a stand-up guy." Kiryu held Majima a little tighter and rocked gently as if to soothe the man. "Let me be your home. Your safe place. I love you and I'm not going to waste any more of our time not saying it."

"Things are complicated right now. There's someone else." Kiryu said.
"Oh." Majima heard himself say and he was embarrassed at the amount of sheepish disappointment he injected into that one syllable. "Sorry 'bout that. Didn't know. You were just somethin' else out there. Got my blood pumpin', is all."
"I can't say I'm not affected by seeing you." Kiryu replied. There were still feelings he needed to rein in and he didn't trust himself to get too close. "Any other time I would have welcomed it but right now I'm not sure if I can work it out or if it's just wishful thinking. He does so well with the kids and -" Kiryu stopped himself. "I'm sorry. We aren't here so you can give me relationship advice."
Majima looked across at Kiryu's profile. He wanted to ask who they were, Kiryu's complicated lover. He wanted to know every last detail. He had a feeling Kiryu would clam up if he asked so directly though.

"Have you done anythin' to try & branch out since we've been apart?! Have ya been on one date?" Majima asked with a mix of annoyance & general concern. Kiryu made a huffy sound & glared at Majima over his shoulder.
"I'm not ready to date yet." He said evenly though he knew this was going to cause a fight.
"Bull." Majima said simply. He crossed his arms tightly and glared at Kiryu. "Can you name me one thing in this whole last year you did? Someplace you went? For you? Just you?"
Kiryu's mouth flattened out into a line. He looked Majima over and then finally settled with, "What do you want me to say?"
"I want ya to say the frickin' truth! Have ya done what I asked ya or have ya just gone and hid from the world?"

And just as the emperor seems to be closing in on making up his mind, it happens. Mozart appears in the doorway of the hall, wetter than a drowned rat, in his usual garish colors. The emperor seems more amused than anything else, but the other officials regard him with annoyed disdain as he drips on the parquet unceremoniously.
“Does anyone have a handkerchief?” Mozart asks the crowd, and they, of course, laugh amiably with him.
