Summary
She’d first spotted the island in broad daylight and thought very little of it; she barely paused, just scribbled down its rough shape and a note to bring Hiccup to fill out his proper map, and moved on. It was only on her way back, just as the sun was beginning to set, that she’d seen anything interesting: some kind of gas, most likely, spilling from a crack in the earth, and almost seeming to glow in the dying light.
Now, with the daylight nearly gone by the time they arrive, the effect is even more striking. The gas is definitely glowing now, in vibrant blue and green and little flickers of pink. It goes all the way up to the sky, blending seamlessly into the aurora above them.
Hiccup has a lot of weight on his scrawny shoulders. Astrid helps where she can, but when a simple outing brings an unexpected discovery, that gets a little more complicated. It’s just one more secret to keep, she supposes.

“A light goes out, flickering slightly before vanishing from the Narrator’s awareness. The human should still be able to make their way by the backup lights that run along the edge where the walls meet the floor, but they freeze in place for a moment. Then there are hands grabbing onto a seam between wall panels and hauling the human up towards the ceiling. They poke at the wires for a moment, then grab hold of one and press it back into its socket; the connection reestablishes, and the light flickers back to life.”
Stanley is a skilled mechanic always looking for a new challenge. He jumps at the opportunity to explore a strange mechanical labyrinth, but it feels like there’s more to these empty hallways than meets the eye.
The Narrator has inhabited this shell for too long to even measure, but he’s never cared much about the humans who occasionally wander in. So then, why is this one different?

”The Narrator is silent. Stanley is perfectly still. They sit like this for a moment; it feels like he’s holding his breath. Maybe they both are. Something in the man’s expression falters, ever so slightly, and he removes his hand from inside the console, the other from the metal case, starts to cross them in front of his chest.
Wait
Stanley smiles, and there’s a mix of relief and smugness and that third damn emotion that he can’t recall well enough to identify. The man waits, sets his hand back down at the edge of the console. Carefully traces his thumb along the edge. The Narrator feels pinned under the weight of anticipation, both his and Stanley’s.
It isn’t a bad feeling, knowing he’s lost even before he says another word.”
Chapter 2.5 for Everything Machine! Today I am serving a deconstructed sex scene, because weird pseudo-sex is more interesting to me. Can't get nearly enough of it, so I guess I have to be the one cooking :3
It's abstracted enough to not need an explicit tag I think? But lemme know if I should change that.

Summary
The island is beautiful, with birds in the trees and bugs buzzing around, but he doesn’t see or hear any animals skittering through the underbrush. He chalks most of that up to the cliffs around the island as they return to their clearing, but one wrong thing is nudging at his brain.
“Did you see any dragons?” he asks Astrid.
“No,” she says after a moment. “Not even a Terror. I don’t think I saw or heard a single dragon except ours. Maybe it’s too close to Berk?”
Berk is having trouble adjusting to friendly dragons. Hiccup and Astrid find a new home base for the dragons and their riders, but there’s one thing wrong with it.

Listen now my-our ears be not-dragon, he urges, humming and filling the space between them with every shade of red and gold he can imagine. Every tiny response he gets, he weaves the color into his sunset until he can feel their minds start to braid together again. There’s still so much white, but he pushes bright-flame-reds until it melts away, leaving pale blues behind that he snatches up and paints with. Fly-fast leave NOW.
Toothless comes back to himself, back to Them, with a startle that shakes his whole body and a growl that calls the attention of every dragon nearby to the Two-who-are-One and the human-friend clinging to Their human-half. (She reeks of fear, just for a moment while their senses are strong before They retreat into Their human-mind, shedding dragon-senses that make Them vulnerable.)
My very own series rewrite — not because I think the movies needed changing (aside from the third), just for fun. Canon isn’t super consistent on how intelligent dragons are (which is to say, they dumb them down as the series goes on), so I decided to standardize it at “higher than the first movie”! Inspired somewhat by Jane Yolen’s Pit Dragon Chronicles because I adore the dragons in that.

Summary
Fabian doesn’t process the pain at first.
There isn’t even pain at first, he’s pretty sure. There’s just shock filtering through his body and deadening his nerves, his ears ringing with a distinct, terrible ripping sound. He knows that sound. He’s caused that sound. He’s a relatively experienced swordsman for his age, a fighter and a bard of the literal college of swords, so of course he knows what it sounds like when steel tears through someone’s flesh and pierces clean through their body.
It’s just not supposed to happen during training.

Seacasters don't train with blunted blades. Hallariel Seacaster doesn't hold back.
These two factors don't bode well when her teenage son makes a fatal mistake on the training field.

Summary
Disability a Day is a challenge for myself to write daily about being disabled. Because my current Special Interest is D&D and I'm Dimension 20, that will be what I currently write. This does not mean I will be posting daily, as I have neither the time nor energy for that, but I am challenging myself to write a bit each day about being disabled, which will slowly accumulate here.
