Hongo didn’t sigh, but Hayato could tell he was holding one back, so it shook out about the same either way. “I am not going to help you with this.”
“Well, I’m not moving from here until you do,” he said, utterly lying and they both knew it – even if staying in one place wouldn’t be dangerous for them, he’d never managed it before and he probably wasn’t about to start now. “Anyway, why not? What’s wrong with my plan?”
“… You’ve named it the ‘Taki Breakdown Plan,’ for a start.”
Hey, what, seriously?! “You can’t just deny it based on the headline! Besides, that part’s a work in progress!”
[In which Hayato Ichimonji really, really, really just wants to see a certain government agent’s stoic facade crack for once, and Hongo, unfortunately, is dragged along for the ride. Set after the events of the movie, so expect unavoidable ending spoilers.]

Zero took a moment to collect himself, feeling a wave of dread set in as he realized just who he was bringing and just where he was bringing them to.
“Huh. Looks kinda like Esmeralda, don’t it?”
“The shade of green is completely different.”
“Indeed. And besides that, the ‘surface’ appears to actually be… a collection of disconnected tectonic plates, loosely held together by – gravity, perhaps assisted by local technological forces, one assumes? Fascinating.”
“In a moderately concerning sort of way.”
“Fine, fine! Completely diff’rent, I get it already! Damn nerds…”
“Hey!”… The dread set in harder, and his thoughts scattered in the face of the usual chaos. Ah, fine. What else had he expected, really…
It wasn’t like bringing his crew back to visit the Land of Light with him was ever going to go smoothly.-

Decided to – who the blazes just did that?! That wasn’t a thing! That certainly wasn’t a thing a scout should be doing – okay, yes, it would be useful for scouting purposes, maybe they should look into that, but the problems remained twofold: One, that shouldn’t have been possible. And two, he shouldn’t have been in a combat situation in the first place.
