Summary
A companion piece to The Freedom of Falling, taking place from Will's perspective before he and Mike meet. This story could potentially be read as a stand-alone or an introduction to The Freedom of Falling, but there will be references to the original story throughout.
Heavy themes of abuse and abuse recovery. Read at your own discretion.
It was almost too much to accept and at first, he hadn’t wanted to. It was too much kindness, too much trust, and too much money wasted on him from Steve’s personal savings. He’d tried to decline it, but Steve refused to take the key back and Robin told him to shut up in the most gentle way she knew how to. After all, what were they going to do with the space? They couldn’t use it for storage forever and they both insisted the renovation was better off as an apartment for Will than it was just collecting dust.

Summary
Mike is a paladin, sworn to uphold his sacred oaths, protect the helpless, and bring the vile, evil things of the world to justice. On his first solo mission, he's tasked with delivering a necromancer to the hangman's noose, but the man he's been charged with escorting to his death doesn't seem like a villain, or even a threat. Still, Mike has a duty to fulfill. Tags to be added as needed, rating may change.

From where he sat, the bound man looked at his feet, caked in blood and dirt, torn to pieces from the road. Mike glanced away, knowing full well he could cure the wounds if he wanted. Now that really would be a waste of resources. The man was to die anyway and the walk was meant to be penance for his crimes: a small measure of suffering to pay for what he’d done. His blood would nourish the earth, the soil beneath, and something new would grow from it when all the necromancer had brought was rot and disease.

Please read tags and be aware of content before reading as there will be very graphic and disturbing content.

8908 had an itch on the sole of his foot but tried to ignore it. Even if his ankle hadn’t been cuffed, he couldn’t have turned far enough in his kneeling position to scratch it with his hands bound so closely together. He shifted, letting his weight move from one leg to the other, feeling the pins and needles of blood flow as he did. Great. Now his nose itched too.
“Eyes forward,” an employee reminded him as they passed, followed by a Domestic in a violet dress.
8908 glanced up briefly before setting his gaze on a water spot on the far wall. Were they going to make him sit through a Choosing or would he be removed before the client arrived? Surely they wouldn’t let such an eyesore remain on the showroom floor.

Why had Noble Synergy hired him? Why had he accepted the offer? The neat six figure salary had certainly played a role in his decision. Were his morals so easily bought? Apparently. Will sighed, fiddling with his suit jacket in agitation. Joyce noticed his nervous fidgeting and discomfort (she always did) and tried to help.
“Just pick a nice assistant. They can help you get settled and get ahead at work and once the lease is up, things will be fine. Go back to normal.”
“Unless you extend the contract. Hell, even buy.” Hopper pointed out, eyes still trained on his phone.
Joyce shot her husband a withering look as Will stared at him, aghast. Hopper glanced up, noticing the tension.
“What? I’m just saying the kid’s gonna be making the money. He could afford to keep one on,” he grumbled, quickly turning his eyes back to the screen of his phone. “I mean, did you see the contract they offered? And that apartment they provided? Not saying he’s gotta keep it, only that he could...”

Summary
Arranged Marriage AU. Tags and warnings will be added as necessary.
Armitage finds himself in a marriage he doesn't want to a man that he hates. At least it will be beneficial for his military career, so long as he can survive his spouse's unpredictable temperament and his own, sometimes deadly ambitions.

“Smile, General. Everyone is watching.”
Armitage shot him a vitriolic glance before returning to look straight ahead. He would conduct himself with grace and dignity, but he refused to smile while his freedoms were stripped from him. Ren might be able to conceal himself beneath a mask, but Armitage had no such options presented to him. The best he could manage was neutrality instead of outright hostility, and Ren was lucky to have that. Though even neutrality was difficult when he had to present his hand for the binding. It was so distasteful to stand there with his hand on top of Ren’s while the officiant wrapped them together to symbolize their lifelong bond that Armitage felt the bile rise in his throat uncontrollably. At least they both wore gloves and didn’t actually have to touch one another. At least the ceremony didn’t end with a kiss.
