It was pitch black. He was laying on a hard flat surface. It was warm, almost muggy. He couldn’t bend his knees without hitting the roof. His head hurt, a deep throbbing ache separate from the sharp new pain in his nose.
Slowly he reached to his sides. He had a few more inches here than above him, but he hadn’t even fully straightened his elbows before both hands reached more wood. Hesitantly, he pushed himself downwards and the results were the same. Two to three inches above and below his original position he hit another wall of wood.
He was in a box.

Oboro’d spoken to him through the rubble and his crushed windpipe. He’d bled onto the concrete, a pink mist rising up in the perpetual humidity that surrounded the Shirakumos. Shouta couldn’t bear to touch him, but the blood got into his skin anyway. It came out of his pores, streaming in red and blue from his mouth and nose.
Then Hizashi had dragged himself to a safe distance away from the kneeling, hacking mess of a man. Shouta could never love enough, or he could never love right, but he still felt that clawing desperation inside him that begged to latch onto anyone. The roots of the daffodils pulled up, and he felt his lungs move with them. Shouta’s love wasn’t enough, and it was too much, and Hizashi left him. He was too selfish to be grateful.
Kayama had been stubborn and hypersexual and condescending, a pillar of a woman that Shouta’s inadequacies could never scratch. She’d take him out of his head and brought him back to humanity, then lower into animal pleasure, loving hedonism. And she’d braid his hair.
The only thing worse than having hanahaki once is getting it three separate, Goddamned times. Shouta's always been unlucky.

Mustang feels his blood run cold as his brain absorbs the words.
They were making chimeras.
