“So that’s it.”
His tone is even—neutral, almost unbearably so. Residual heat from the coffee container bleeds into Miles’ open palms. Thinking it better to feign calm, he brings the cup to his lips and sips.
“You’re in love with somebody, huh?”
What little of the steaming liquid had flooded in veers sharply from his windpipe and into his esophagus; eyes wide with mortification, he whips his head in Wright’s direction. “Must you always jump to conclusions?” he sputters. “It’s nothing of the sort!”
Wright, for his part, is deathly blank in the face of Miles’ objection. Save for the way he slowly hunches over, shoulders curling in to hide his eyes, he shows no signs of having been affected by his outburst.
“It’s alright”—he brings a hand to his nose bridge, pinching lightly—“don’t worry.”
Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright, and a cup of coffee to mask unnecessary feelings.

"I'm not. Like," and, oh, he's really underprepared for this situation. If he'd known they'd be getting so deep into the whole feelings thing, he would have made up a mystery illness and stayed in L.A. "I was pretty fucking in love with you. Even during State versus Skye. I mean, I had other stuff on my mind, but it was there."

“Hey, Miles,” Mr. Wright said entirely out of the blue, midway through their manic investigation session into the financial records of M. Bezzel, Ltd, “let’s get married.”
“Hmph?” Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth didn’t even look up from the tax return he was currently examining. “Now? Don’t be ridiculous. We still have two years of receipts to sift through.”
Apollo and Prosecutor Gavin goggle as their bosses argue their way through the least-romantic proposal, engagement, and wedding they've ever witnessed. It's almost as if, to Mr. Wright and Mr. Edgeworth, wedded bliss is equivalent to a long bickering legal debate crammed in amid an ongoing investigation.

Summary
They eat the tiramisu outside on the patio and Miles brings the radio with them, where voices chat lightly in Italian, sometimes laughing or playing music. Occasionally, Phoenix asks for a translation, and Miles slips in and out of the two languages seamlessly - he doesn’t even care much for what they’re saying, Phoenix just likes to hear him repeat the words back to him. “Pirla,” Miles says, spooning at a layer of cocoa-powder, “it means ‘idiot’ or 'stupid person'.”
“Pirla.” He repeats, in full-blown American. “And what are they saying now?”
“They’re talking about how much they hate their husbands.”
“Jesus. Why does everyone always hate their husbands?”
Phoenix makes dinner. A week spent in Lake Como, 2022.

Summary
It strikes Phoenix that the last time he spoke to Miles Edgeworth on the phone they were nine years old, and his stomach does an odd little flip. It used to be easy—so easy that most calls only ended with parental intervention.
Now the novelty of it strikes him. Unstructured conversation, outside the bounds of court cases and murders and kidnappings, no third parties to interject. More remarkably still, Edgeworth called him. Which means… what, exactly?
