Why did Beca agree to this?
She’s cold and everything is a little damp and she can’t tell if it’s because of how sweaty she is or if it’s the snow but it’s awful. And her shins hurt; she didn’t even know shins could hurt, but here they are, aching muscles and bruises literally inside her bones.
Beca glares down at her feet, at the stupidly huge ski boots with the dumb skis attached to them. She frowns and uses her pole to shove some of the snow off her right ski. She’s about to complain that her toes are numb but then Chloe glides up next to her and throws an arm around her shoulders and Beca remembers why she agreed to this dumb ski trip.

Chloe has cancer.
Jesse’s saying something, probably elaborating, but Beca can’t hear him. There’s a rushing noise in her ears like she's driving on the freeway with all the windows down; his mouth is moving but she can’t hear anything.
Chloe has cancer. She’s had it for months, has already undergone chemo and waited for her results and now she’s dying, and everyone knows already. Has known for weeks, Beca’s just the last one to hear about it.
She has three months left.
Chloe’s dying in three months.

Chloe started humming the tune of some song Beca couldn’t place and everything was perfect. The smell of coffee filling their apartment, Chloe holding her, Chloe’s shampoo and still damp hair, Chloe’s humming in her ear, that early morning sun filtering in delicately through those sheer curtains Chloe had insisted on getting. Beca could stay there forever. Fuck work, fuck being a producer, fuck everything in the world. The only thing that mattered was this, being completely wrapped up in Chloe.
