It’s not as though there’s a word for what the Doctor is to him, no single term that could encompass it all. He’s willing to invent one of course, but he did think they’d settled happily on ‘enemy’. He’d been especially pleased with the possession lurking in it, allowing himself to go so far as ‘archenemy’ or ‘nemesis’ on special occasions. Still, if the Doctor insists, he can be obliging. There’s an obvious choice. “Certainly, I’m very pleased you-”
“Not,” the Doctor interrupts, insufferably amused, “my master, either.”

“I want you dead,” the Master corrects, beginning to laugh his mad laughter again. If that were true he’d be in here himself, with his gloved hands warm around the Doctor’s throat.
