Summary
The people she left behind dare her to yearn after them. The people she killed don't let her forget them.
Carmen disappears because its all she can think to do, all she can fathom to fix this - to fix herself. She can't stand to face her friends - her family - with the sins that scar her. So she takes the cowards exit. She leaves them. She lets him go. Lets them all go. She finds her mother, hopes in vain her warmth will mend what's broken, fill whats not whole.
It's not the best solution.

Summary
Sancha Pilar is a thief down on her luck. She's penniless, jobless, crewless, and very, very much blacklisted in the criminal underworld. Stuck in Berlint without an ally to turn to or a heist to hatch, she grows needlessly bored. But things change when she learns an old Acquaintance - the Westalis Spy TWILIGHT - is in town. And here's something else - he is deep undercover.
As one of the few people aware of his identity that is still alive to tell the tale, Sancha blackmails Twilight into helping her, and for the sanctity of the cover, he complies. Inadvertently, she becomes involved with Twilight's scheme herself, eventually learning that a former funder and likely rat of the the criminal organization she formerly worked for is in town : Stanwin Blackbell, CEO of Blackbell Heavy industries. At night, she secretly resumes her heists and plots revenge against the Blackbells. During the day she babysits Anya, Twilight's-for-the-mission-fake-daughter. But as her scores grow bolder, her activity gains the attention of the State Security Service, causing Sancha to become embroiled with Yuri Briar, a secret police officer and also, conveniently, the brother of Twilight's for-the-mission-fake-wife.

When she's not hiding in her books or imagining herself as an action hero, Ro often gets caught in squabbles between her moody teenage sister and her hyperactive tweenage brother. Her parents didn't break the mold any more than her siblings did, possessing the equally boring occupations of Historian and Electrical Engineer, and kept up boring hobbies to match, like her dad's passion for telling dad jokes and tinkering with gizmos, or, in her mom's case, collecting dusty knick-knacks from by-gone eras, memorizing trivia nobody knew the context to, and attending fusion kickboxing Zumba.
On paper, the five of them were as normal as they came, barely warranting cause for a closer look. But reality is not so cut and dry; Roseanna's had eight years to notice all the tiny ways her family was different from everyone else - from her mother's lack of baby pictures or her father's adamancy never to use social media - but the reality is a lot more complicated than even she ever bothered to consider. When an old rival from her parents' shady past returns for retribution, the shocking truth is finally revealed.

"-Carmen..?"
Carmen snapped out of her thoughts, flashing back to the present with a jolt. Ivy was standing in front of her with one orange brow kicking up in questioning. “Sorry, what?" She said, blinking. Her voice was thick from lack of use, and she had to clear her throat.
"I said, have you seen Gray? I was gonna ask if he wanted a slice of cake before Zack gobbles the whole thing." Ivy rolled her eyes good naturedly, turning to face her brother who was, as expected, scarfing down the airy slices of the Chocolate cake the two had whipped up earlier in the evening.
Carmen snorted at the pair's antics, shaking herself out of her contemplative daze. "No, I haven't seen him. But good idea, i'll go see where he's been hiding."
The ginger raised a brow, smirking a little too all knowingly. "You could just call him down, ya know."
“Don't wanna bother the neighbors." Carmen winked with feigned innocence, spinning smoothly on her heel and darting up the stairs.
Ivy "mhm"-ed, unimpressed, from behind her, but Carmen ignored her. She had no idea what her friend was implying. Not one single clue.

Summary
Out from the helicopter stepped Mime Bomb, tall and slender as ever. Normally, his painted face mostly just looked ridiculous. But under the distant light of the jungle moon, he appeared downright horrifying. The Mime was not alone: worse terrors were behind him. Shadows began to spill from the clunky mode of transport, and it took Carmen a moment to recognize them as people. In seconds, the landing site was teeming with shady figures clad in variations of the all-too-familiar stealth suit. Vile Ops, and nearly a dozen of them. Some, she recognized from her year or the ones before. Others were new, younger and fresher than she, faces unscrupulous and hungry for blood.
A final character descended onto the crowded Helipad. His descent was separated, more purposeful than the ones before. The others turned to face him, paying him a form of silent authority. The "click" of a weapon activating sounded out through the night, and a Crackle Rod's familiar green blare washed over the space.
Carmen's heart caught in her throat.

One mistake, just one slip-up, and it's over. And if you're caught... don't think for a second you'll get off easy. A life sentence, or worse, would be your only future. Do you understand the gravity of what I'm saying?" He paused, scanning their faces.
"Deny, defend, depose. That is our creed. Deny them the power they've stolen. Defend the people they exploit. Depose those at the top. Are you with me?"
