Cole closed his suitcase and slumped down on the bed. He was going to leave before Paige showed up earlier that day. He was committed to leaving.Cole had hoped that he could convince Phoebe to give him a second chance. Now, he knew that it would never happen. And as much as he hated it, he accepted it.
Phoebe rushed into the penthouse, looking around frantically. "Cole?!" There was no answer. The reality that Cole was well and truly gone sank in. Surprisingly, instead of feeling the relief that Phoebe had waited for, she sank down to her knees in tears. She had believed that she wanted Cole out of her life but the reality of having him gone was much different. Her heart felt empty.
In season 5, episode 2, Cole is on his way to leave San Francisco. He decides to stay after talking to Phoebe. But what if Cole had left anyways? What if Phoebe was unable to sign the divorce papers? What if they both heal before reuniting?

That took her off guard, like a sudden gut-punch. For a long moment all she could do was stare, her mind aswirl in a blizzard of old hurts, unspoken doubts.
“It doesn’t matter why he did it,” she heard herself saying as if from somewhere far away. “It doesn’t matter what he did. I asked him not to defend Wheatley.” It was like a mantra, she suddenly realized, one she had been spinning for four years. It used to help. It used to ground her. Summary
After a long time of being out of touch, Olivia Benson hears that Rafael Barba is back in town. She finds out he has renovated a brownstone in Brooklyn, where he now resides with his dog, Bruno. Olivia finds her curiosity piqued.
After a chance encounter, Noah seems eager to have Rafael back in their lives. Following some encouragement from Amanda and Carisi, Olivia also finds herself reconnecting with Rafael, and learning about the ways in which his life has changed since their parting of the ways.
Gradually, they become closer and she lets herself begin to imagine a life they could share together. As they grow closer, however, Elliot Stabler makes a reappearance, still carrying a torch for Olivia.
This is a story with a Barba/Benson endgame perspective.
