Summary
Everyone goes through their ups and downs, Matts "down" just seems to be taking a while. As his random bursts of sadness and anxiety progress into something worse, his brothers notice the change in his behaviour and want to help, though they will soon discover that you can't help someone unless they are ready to accept it.
Or: Matt struggles, distances himself and tries to figure everything out on his own, then unexpectedly meets someone who will change everything.

Chris had made a pact with Matt a long time ago, all the way in seventh grade when his mental problems first arose, to reel him back in whenever he’d floated too far out to swim. He swore to stick to it until his dying breath, kissing his pinky finger and interlocking it with Matt’s in the school bathroom after one of his panic attacks. In fact, Chris had promised to be the boy’s personal superhero from the literal second he could even think to do so.
God, it really kills him to sit here and listen to his brother in distress.
