Summary
Most people meet their parents in standard, almost traditional ways. They’re born to them and meet them before their memory even develops, they’re adopted or fostered by them through an agency, or they meet one half of them as a process of them becoming a parent, like when Hiro-kun’s dad started dating the woman he’d later call mom in fourth grade.
Haruka isn’t like any of the other kids she knows, though. She meets her parents in terrifying, messed up situations, when they’re just strangers struggling to stay alive, before they have any idea that they’ll one day be a family. Sometimes Haruka still sees those moments as set dressing for her nightmares like backdrops in a theater. Her mom she especially sees in her nightmares and dreams, since she can’t see her anywhere else except when they visit her grave.
Still, though, she wouldn’t change anything about it. She meets her dad, Kiryu Kazuma, in that blood soaked bar and he’s quiet but kind from the get go.
Her father, however… Well, meeting him might be the most unconventional meeting of any parent-figure on the planet.

Haruka Sawamura is a woman on a mission with a family to provide for.
Kazuma Kiryu has been dead for six years, and in that time, Haruka Sawamura has taken over the Morning Glory orphanage, following in his footsteps by taking on a new generation of orphans. After the death of her husband, she journeys alone to the Isezaki Ijincho ward of Yokohama to locate a businessman by the name of Ichiban Kasuga so that she can secure funding for the future of the orphanage.
When she arrives, however, she finds that Kasuga is nowhere to be found, and what's worse, one of the city's largest criminal factions seems to want her dead. But Haruka is a difficult woman to scare off. Determined to provide a better future for the orphans and for her own son, Haruka proceeds undeterred, and soon finds herself knee-deep in a criminal conspiracy that spans the whole of Japan and threatens the wellbeing of her entire family. With the help of some new friends made along the way, as well as some old faces from her past, she tries to get to the bottom of it all - and makes a shocking discovery relating to the truth behind Kiryu's death.

Silence fell around the table as they all considered this new angle. If they were talking about any other guy Seonhee would have suggested finding him a pretty girl who’d show him a good time. [...] But she knew it just wouldn’t work. It’s not that Kiryu-san didn’t appreciate beautiful women; he just wasn’t a man who’d fall head over heels for one so quickly. It was a quality she admired about him, and which, at the same time, annoyed her to no end. The man was immovable like a mountain.

Only one thing was holding Ichiban back from crossing the fucking line: his Alpha, Dr. Zahara Stone.
Zahara's soft hand was pressed against Ichiban's chest, a gentle yet firm command to stay put. Her once rich hazel eyes now glowed scarlet as she looked up at Ichiban, her gaze unwavering and commanding. He was dangerously close to summoning his bat to crack this guy's skull wide open.
"Easy there, Big Guy," Zahara hummed, her soft purrs soothing the intense rage that threatened to consume Ichiban. "He isn't worth it, beloved. You'd only ruin your nice suit." She chuckled before gently turning his chin downwards, slowly, his burning gold eyes softened as he allowed himself to be calmed by his alpha's touch.
