Rhys is a graduate student writing his Criminal Psychology dissertation on prison reformation arcoss Pandora. For his research, he's granted an opportunity to work with Handsome Jack, the infamous head of the most notorious criminal empire in Pandora's history who narrowly avoided the death sentence during reformation. Acclimated to his life in prison, where he rules the roost with his loyal circle of connections, Jack sees Rhys as nothing but something to amuse himself with at first, to which Rhys feels contempt for. But as they get further under each other's skin, their opinions of one another start to shift. Rhys begins to question everything he previously believed about Jack. Soon, Rhys finds himself less concerned with his research, and more concerned with his own moral downfall. Because Jack's got a plan to escape his fate of lifelong imprisonment, and Rhys just might be convinced to help him in regaining his freedom.

Jack said it was a reward, but when Timothy was held down and his wings restrained painfully against his back shortly after he arrived, he knew it was anything but. The harness was deceptively soft around his chest, the metal along its back painful when it was slowly ratcheted close to his back, leaving only the barest of movements possible.
"I have some nasty little rebels sniffing around, and I can't let them know you're still alive, can I?" The Hyperion CEO whistled as he watched Timothy struggle, a new holowatch replacing the old one Timothy had been given so long ago. "Don't try and get smart without my eyes on you; free those pretty little wings, and I'll get an alert. However, if you play nice and keep this place pumping money for me, I'll let you get some free time."
It was a promise that never came true, as Jack was murdered less than a year later, and the casino went into lockdown.

To see the face of the infamous Handsome Jack after all these years, of the man who had reigned down terror and murder in droves most bandits even dreamed of? Yea, not an instant way to get a gaggle of strangers to like you. Yet his finger went still when Zane took in the cracked mask and the wild eyes, a sharp whistle stilling the murderous intent in the others he considered allies.
