Summary
“….You dyed your hair.” The words were said softly. It wasn’t a whisper but something close to it.
Ichigo blinked. Oh. He had already forgotten about that. Ichigo wasn’t the one who had dyed it black - it had been Yashiro who had done it for him- but Ichigo wasn’t going to tell Urahara that; it would lead to more questions than Ichigo wanted to deal with.
“I’m going to be less noticeable this way.” Ichigo explained after a minute of silence had dragged on. No one had walked by the Shoten thankfully. “The longer I can go unnoticed the better chance I have of saving Rukia.”
Urahara was still staring at him. His eyes were no longer wide though.
“…..How are your wounds?” Urahara inquired as he drew the fan closer to his face.
There was something wrong.
Ichigo hadn’t known Urahara for a long time but-
“And did you get permission from your family?”
“I’m completely healed.” Ichigo paused, debating on how likely it was he would get the truth if he asked why Urahara was acting off. “Did I mess up dyeing it or something?”

Satoru opened the door as quietly as he could, and he quickly regretted his decision not to grab his jacket, gloves or shoes, shivering as the cold bit his bare skin and seeped through his clothes. He blinked rapidly and squinted, adjusting to the darkness, and—
“Yashiro-sensei?” he whispered, confused. The man stood by the open gate, dressed in a thick coat, a large bag slung over his shoulder.
“Satoru?” His teacher’s brows rose, and Satoru’s shoulders relaxed slightly. “What are you doing here? It’s almost three. It’s dangerous to be out so late.”

Yashiro decides to drop off his bag at the bus at a different time. Satoru has the misfortune of waking up when Yashiro arrives. -

“Rukia was kidnapped.” Out of everyone in his life, Yashrio only would understand how grave this was to Ichigo.
“Have you called the police, Spice?”
The glare Ichigo directed at man was a dry thing. Call the police. What a joke.
Even if Rukia was human the police wouldn’t be any help.
If the police in this town had been good then the man before Ichigo would be behind bars instead of trying to pursue a political career.
“If that was your attempt to make me laugh then you still suck at telling jokes.”
“Most people think my jokes to be funny.” There was humor to be found in Yashrio’s voice. Ichigo knew exactly what Yashiro was getting a laugh out of. The biggest joke Yashiro had ever played - was still playing - was only one Ichigo and Yashiro would understand. Everyone else was the brunt of it.
Ichigo looked at his former sensei. “And most people don’t think you murder children.”
There was delight to be found in Yashiro’s eyes.
It was lonely to not be seen. Ichigo had not only learned that from pulses but from a serial killer.

Never in a million years had Satoru expected that it was Yashiro. His kind, sweet sensei. Satoru lifted his hands to his hair and pulled, eyes watering both from the pain in his head and heart. The betrayal stung.
He leaned over, resting his warm temple against the freezing glass. He took in a deep, shuddering breath, then let it out, clouding the window.
Tap. Tap. He could still hear Yashiro’s finger hitting the steering wheel. The man’s scent didn’t smell as nice anymore. Spices. It made Satoru’s head swim and his stomach cramp up.
