A kunoichi of Otogakure, Takara Tengai is a mysterious young woman who conceals her face beneath her clan’s traditional attire.
Her musical skill and diplomatic charm earn an invitation from the Earth daimyo to lead and provide music for the annual folkloric procession of the Fruits of the Earth holiday festival.
Accompanied by her comrade, Kabuto Yakushi, Takara partakes in the sights and delights of a foreign land in the midst of a spectacular celebration.
At least, until her boundless curiosity and acute hearing gain her access to a secret she can’t ignore.

“You know,” she hums thoughtfully. “If you wanted, we could have a side trade deal of our own. One not connected to Orochimaru. That way you could come to me for herbs whenever you please.”
Kabuto pauses. He’s not sure Orochimaru would like that; or maybe he would, who knows. But it’s an excuse to visit her more, to gain a better grasp on her suspicious character. So, he accepts.
For he has been a spy far too long to know how to be anything else.

Summary
Kabuto turned his cup, appreciating the simple rabbit motif it was adorned with. It was cute, and he wasn’t entirely immune to the visceral charm of cute things. Their longing eyes were formed from the tiniest dots of shining, translucent red resin. He brought the cup up to his face and inhaled the tea’s aroma.
He lowered his cup without taking a sip and raised his eyes to meet Takara’s, a darkly calculating look upon his face.
“Awfully bold of you,” he said plainly.

Summary
A young Kabuto Yakushi decides to share a surprisingly delightful secret of Otogakure with his captivating new friend (and research specimen), Takara Tengai.
It's a cute, fluffy little one-shot with a sprinkling of lore that references "What We Treasure". Realistically, Kabuto and Takara are more of a slow-burn pairing, but I couldn't quite banish the thought of them having a sweet little romantic moment together earlier in the timeline (you know... wide-eyed pre-ponytail Kabuto who just started working for Orochimaru). I wanted to give the impression of two shy teens, forced to grow up too fast, shrugging their responsibilities to hide out in a secret fort.
