By the second month most of everyone had given up and came to the conclusion that Spike had been dusted. Then another month later while Angel had come to Sunnydale so he and Buffy could brainstorm in person they finally found him. Well, not found him so much as he seemed to have been carelessly dropped on Buffy’s front porch while everyone was having dinner.
Or, Spike gets kidnapped then is returned and looks terrible.
