Summary
Claudia does not name all of her paintings. Often when she does name them, it will be a purely descriptive title: Stapler. Still Life with Orchid. She comes to appreciate the value of naming things properly. Framing is everything - you must place your audience in the right mindset, with the title, to understand your work. No one enjoys being utterly inscrutable all the time.
It turns out that if you don't name your work, other people will do it for you.

The Cradle is Sigrid's home, but whether or not it's her "culture" is a tricky question. Is culture tradition? Is culture ideals and values?
Or is culture sometimes just survival?

There is a lot of adjusting to do, to their life in a cottage by the sea. Or at least, it seems like a lot of adjusting at the beginning. At some point, Oleta realises it's all been a lot easier than she expected.

Summary
Michael was raised in a government facility, supported by government officials, and got a government job. He has never been given particular cause for worry that his identity would affect his prospects or his place in the world. The New Society decriminalised homosexuality, made it easy for trans kids to transition, and two of the female members of the World Council are literally married to one another. It has never occurred to him that a group like the Queer Liberation Collective should exist, let alone that he should be part of it.

"An eight-year-old girl found the body. The girl's attendant had to report the girl to retraining at The Institute. [...] I'm positive that the scars of seeing human remains were less impactful than the scars of whatever... recalibrating they're putting her through now." (Cassette #8: Ohara Museum of Art (1980))

Gwen knows it's a bad idea, but she has to apologize to Indra for...so many things. So, so many things.
Contains spoilers for Season 5, but really, so do the tags. My apologies if I spoiled the reveal of the season for you.
Rated T for swearing, because Indra.

Summary
Names are important. Names are who you are, and where you're from, and they're both extremely complicated and exceedingly simple. An element of choice is crucial, Indra believes, because the Society can't just tell you who you are. It's morally imperative to question who they tell you you ought to be, to interrogate the "truths" they attempt to tell you about yourself and uncover the ones they attempt to hide.
Also, she thinks having a new name would be cool.

Summary
Miri doesn't follow politics, particularly. She knows she should. She knows she should read the news, or at the very least keep up to date with what Nora is doing so that everything isn't a total surprise when she gets to catch up with her, every now and then. But she doesn't read the news or follow politics or do most of the things she should as an active member of the Society, so she's sure that if she tried to suggest to someone that the Society isn't so much the defeat of colonialism as the new and socially acceptable form of it, they would tell her why she was completely and utterly wrong. They would probably make actual citations, and something other than a feeling. But the more she thinks about it...
Miri sometimes thinks she thinks too much for her own good.

Summary
In 1973, Roimata was invited to comment on an exhibit of Claudia Atieno's work at the Ulster Museum. And since she wasn't expected back anywhere in particular, she arranged to stay with a friend in Éire, thinking it would be a nice change of scenery and an opportunity to catch up with a friend. She didn't count on the massive flooding and storms that swept across the island blowing them off course...
She didn't count on finding a little town called Ballinroche with a history of disappearances, and a lonely old house in the middle of nowhere.

Summary
"But art is often just record keeping, letting us know that an apple looked the same to Cezanne in 1895 as it does to a grocer in 1974. Or a dog in a 15th century tapestry had the same shape and size ratio to humans as one today on Saint Catherine Street right here in Montreal." --Season 2, Cassette #6: Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (1978)
