    "I'm sorry, babe," said Rumlow, with a sad half-smile. "You know I have to do this."

    The Soldier nodded once, steadily. He took in a huge breath, and silently took off his shirt. The blood Rumlow was about to draw would almost be a relief - liquid penance for the Soldier's inadequacy.

    He was just lucky that Rumlow still cared about him enough to be honest with him about what a piece of shit he was.

    The shivering figure in the cell corner had stopped screaming now that Natasha had stopped speaking to him, and instead was just shuffling himself helplessly into his corner. Shudders raced randomly over his body like electric shocks, making his half-twisted spine twitch his back.

    “What did he say?” Tony asked.

    Natasha closed her eyes. “Numbers. He was repeating numbers.”

    “What numbers?”

    “Three two five five seven zero three eight.”

    “Which means?”

    She opened her eyes, the green flashing.

    “What numbers would any prisoner be chanting? It’s a serial number, dumbass.”

    Tony already had Jarvis running the numbers through a military database, and before she had finished speaking, Jarvis had fed a name to him.

    Tony slipped his helmet down to stare blankly at Nat.

    “...It can’t really be him,” he said, as if hoping she’d agree and have a different, reasonable explanation. “He shouldn’t have survived that long.”

    “I know.”

    “He CAN’T have survived that long.”

    “Steve did,” she said softly.

    Summary

    What started as a 10-20 chapter outline has become over 200 chapters worth of content, and no one is surprised, haha!

    This series starts out with the Asset escaping HYDRA's clutches in 2012 during the Chitauri attack on New York, includes his murder revenge tour against HYDRA across the country, his eventual capture and rehabilitation by the Avengers, and many adventures in therapy and recovery beyond that. Plus, Winterhawk (that's Clint/Bucky) slow burn that lasts hundreds of chapters as they circle each other and fall in love. Observe as villains die brutally on the page and civilians and bystanders occasionally become close friends of the cast and cast members themselves.

    There's some HYDRA Trash Party tropes in here that can get pretty dark, but everything should be tagged appropriately per chapter in the end notes. And since it's a revenge tour recovery journey, most of the HYDRA Trash Party stuff is either referenced only or is firmly in the past. We're moving forward (slowly) not backward, here. ^_^

      Bucky is hunting Hydra, the Avengers are hunting him. No one knows his identity for a while, and when Steve figures it out Hydra starts trembling. There is lots of gore, Bucky doesn't hold back. Team building and hints of found family.

      Clint is wonderful. Sam is a saint. Bucky is kinda confused but mostly annoyed. And Steve really just wants his best fella back.

      Also, Bucky has a cute dog.
