Summary
The hallway and the rooms are kept as dark as possible for the sake of the patients. Too many had complained about the Light becoming unbearable for their eyes, and the cool and dark had been a welcoming alternative to the agonizing brightness of the Spagyrics and the sky outside. The room is plain, furnished with a comfortable, if small, bed pressed against the wall, a desk occupied by various herbs and tools, vials, a wooden bowl of freshly picked cherries. Dark as it is, the room feels well-lit; the fault of the heap curled tight upon the bed, the Exarch knows, and the excess of light-aspected aether drifting about the space like dust in a soft breeze. He can feel it leaking from the body, hanging in the air and dripping down to gather on the floor, pooling unseen beneath his sandals.
The body upon the bed has been watching him since the door opened, though the Exarch cannot be certain if the hume can see any longer, by the cataract-dull glow that seems fixated on the opposite wall.

Summary
Look away. Leave him to his peace. Close your eyes.
The room darkens, imperceptibly. A familiar wavering creeping in at the edges of his vision, drawing the Exarch’s attention away from the mirror with some hesitancy to the gathering shade behind him in the center of the Ocular. What had been desire and longing warps rapidly to conflicted disgust, especially when his murmur to dispel the image in the mirror is blocked so effortlessly by the growing darkness.
“Well, well,” murmurs the shade, Emet-Selch’s sardonic tone breaking the silence of the Exarch’s sanctuary without thought. “I knew you to be a voyeur, Exarch, but I never thought you to be so invasive.”

Summary
"In the time I knew you back then, and in every tome I've read about you since no one ever seems to know your true name." He won't lie to himself and pretend the mystery isn't intriguing, or that he doesn't want the privilege of uncovering such a well-kept secret. Meteor couldn't be his given name, the way he'd reacted had all but confirmed that.
