The gambler reeks of alcohol; it won't serve any purpose to cater to the whims of someone who is so evidently impaired.
Kakavasha opens his mouth.

And then—
Glass seems to break, crack, shatter all across. It shows on Lapis’ face—something abrupt and vaguely familiar.
The hand on Kakavasha’s cheek slackens, lowers, falls. It falls, but it doesn’t tumble fully out of reach—the doctor’s fingers, instinctively tightening around Lapis’ wrist.
“…I see.”
Lapis looks at him—in hurt, in regret, in self-loathing, in too many things Kakavasha sees in his own reflection.
“…My apologies,” a breath; something tender, “I don’t know where he is either.”
…Oh.
“Oh,” Kakavasha says.

These words haunted Aventurine day and night. Especially while Ratio was on his stupid work trip. He never responded to messages like he used to, and he spoke so coldly to Aventurine.

His eyes flicker open, sunset orange orbs gazing blankly into the sky. They swivel between everyone, before finally settling on Aventurine. To his horror, his face breaks out into a wide, unabashed smile.
“Hi, love!” Ratio's voice held a funny lilt akin to joy. “I missed you!”

When a Curio temporarily erases Ratio's memory, he remembers two things- he loves Aventurine, and they are together. Which leaves Aventurine in an awkward spot, because he's pretty sure they're not together, and that Ratio has, and never will, love him back.

Summary
A new member of the Ten Stonehearts is shown to his office and it seems as though there's some conflicting thoughts running through his head. The one they call Aventurine stares into space as his thoughts wander until a young Stoneheart enters his new office to speak with him. The one called Topaz seems to want to make a deal with him, one he didn't know whether to refuse or not.
He made a choice to join their ranks. It was for his own survival and to make it to the other side, he told himself. Was it all worth it? Only time will tell, it seems. -
