Summary
Neil Perry was six years old the first time he felt the sting of his father’s cruel words seep like poison into his skin. In a local supermarket in the small town of Wilmington, Vermont that the Perrys called home, the neatly stacked apples on the quaint wooden display were fresh and crisp.
“Rose, what are you doing still holding his hand in public like that? He’s in the first grade now, he ought to start to become more independent. Boys don’t hold their mother’s hands at this age,” he sneered.☆☽☆
Todd Anderson knew all about shame. If there was one feeling that always returned to him like home, year after year as he got older, it was shame. Shame for feeling different. Shame for hardly being able to get a sentence out without stuttering. Shame for being inferior, inferior to Jeffrey.
A mostly canon-compliant DPS story, folliowing the events of their time at Welton and focusing more on the inner thoughts of characters (mostly Neil and Todd). Focuses on Neil and Todd's relationship, Todd's issues with anxiety, Neil's issues with depression and not being able to follow his own path. Despite attempting suicide, Neil lives, and the story continues to the end of the poets' final year.

Summary
‘“Yeah -cough- thanks. Just going to g-cough-et a drink.” Todd picked himself up as his speed-walked to the nearest water fountain.
He reached it just as another coughing fit began. Yet this one was different. A gold-yellow petal just fell out of his mouth. He must’ve accidentally breathed it in and that was what had caused the coughing fits.’

————————————Another day at ‘Hell-ton’ yet it was going alright so far. All the lessons had finished for the day and the majority of his homework was done. All that was left to do was rehearse lines with Neil at the dock. It was all thrilling until Todd began to have a cough. This wasn’t bad at all but it wouldn’t go away. He had to head over go to the water fountain for a drink yet something seemed off; a petal?

Summary
Todd Anderson is a bestselling crime novelist. After publishing his third novel, he’s grown tired of writing murder mysteries. With the encouragement of his editor, he decides that his next novel will have mysteries of a different sort: medical mysteries. Trouble is, he doesn’t know anything about medicine.
Dr. Neil Perry is an oncologist who, quite frankly, is bored with monotonous day-to-day work. Not even his favorite crime novels can keep his boredom at bay. So when his boss tells him that a famous novelist is going to be shadowing his work for research, he’s happy to help out!
Or; to research his new novel, Todd shadows Neil's work. What could go wrong?

Summary
"Todd, who had been raising his toast to take a bite, let out a small laugh. Because it was a joke. Because it must be a joke. He didn’t get why or how it was funny, but not laughing at jokes wasn’t nice. So he laughed. Except, Knox didn’t laugh with him. Instead, he just stared at him with something sad in his eyes. Todd’s laughter died. They stared at each other. Todd took another bite from his toast.
“Todd...” Knox said after Todd had continued eating his toast, pity in his voice. “You know you’re a catch right?”
Todd felt thoroughly confused. Like he’d woken up and was actually in a parallel universe. He looked at Neil, just in case there was something off about him too. But he looked normal, invested in his own conversation. He noticed Todd’s look though, and shot him a cute smile that Todd wanted to kiss— wait. Focus. He didn’t know what was going on. He thought about Knox’s question, and well, he didn’t know about being a catch. But he didn’t know how it mattered anyway. And either or, he figured that Neil must think so— being Todd’s boyfriend and all."

Summary
“I’ve read your poetry, you know,” Neil admits casually after a few beats of silence, as if he’s discussing the weather and not revealing earth-shattering information, while his eyes remain trained on the football game playing on the TV in the corner of the bar.
Did he know? Could he see right through all of Todd’s poetry, see all of the desperate clinging onto his glory days which were limited to five brief months because of his disappearance? Todd almost wants to lunge at him, wants to throttle this boy-turned-man for getting to know all of the agonies which traced his mind while he was stuck in this dingy bar still not even being able to tell if a smirk or frown was pulling at Neil’s lips.
Of course he doesn’t lunge, – when has Todd lunged for anything in his life? – just struggles to not choke on his spit while he rasps out a simple “yeah?” as if it’s a full question. This will be the death of him, he’s decided.
Or in which it’s 1981, New York Times bestselling poet Todd Anderson has run out of words to say, and he just so happens to run into the only boy who always knew how to speak up for him.

Summary
His hands trembled slightly as he pulled the desk chair back and sat down gently. His hands placed the gun down on the desk, silently as to not wake his parents. He pulled the cloth away carefully, locking eyes with the last thing he would see.
As he picked it up, he began to think of all the times in his life where he had felt content. It was no surprise that Todd was included in most of those memories.

Neil’s thoughts as he crosses the line between life and death.

Summary
Todd still loves Neil, maybe he always will.
A poet in love can only think of one thing when loving... writing to whom his heart decides to belong.Maybe his words won't reach Neil, but at least this way he can feel him getting closer and closer to him, like the rays of the sun after a snowy night.
Or, Todd never quite gets over Neil, so he decides to write to him in the hopes of one day getting a response.

Summary

Summary
Take, O take those lips away,
That so sweetly were forsworn;
And those eyes, the break of day,
Lights that do mislead the morn:
But my kisses bring again, bring again;
Seals of love, but seal'd in vain, seal'd in vain.
—ShakespeareIn which Todd is anxious about not having his first kiss and Neil has one of his patented brilliant ideas.

Summary
There is something between Neil Perry and Todd Anderson. A spark some would call it, about to light the biggest fire of a lifetime. Something that is even more forbidden than their shared passion for the arts, something that has to be kept secret as if they had murdered a man.
Neil had never been the radiating energy of the group like Charlie was, or the genius like Meeks. He was something in between, a ray of energy without its powersource, a genius only by pressure to bring home the grades of a doctor.
Maybe Todd would be the torch to his book, united deep in the night when no one could criticize the words written on the page. No screaming, no burning the book because it was inappropriate. Just a book, a torch and a little boy trying to find himself somewhere between the light and the words.
Don’t we all search for our glow, for the thrill of a secret in the night?
