Summary
Was he beginning to develop a fear of the colour red? If only he could live in only black and white, as cold and unchanging as a photograph. A perfect representation of the good man he once was, not this corpse that dragged his name in puddles of blood. He wished he could be remembered as a doctor murdered and made a martyr for trying to help. His death had been written before he was born, and now he had been chosen for a second chance at life. At least, that is what he was trying to convince himself. It was not working.
Bite the hand that beats him.
The incessant need to feed drove him to the dark alleyway, staring at little bundles of red running in seemingly random patterns and shapes. His claws were out stretched, patiently waiting at his side like a feline choosing his next meal. He wished these were nightmares, but they were far too real. Symptoms of a sickness of the brain not yet revealed.
Fingers curling on their own he found himself grasping his scalp this time, claws sinking into his skin. His knees shook, hardly able to support his weight while his feet kept driving him forward. The slightest sense of preservation directed him to hide, to get away from this place.

The next time he opened his eyes, the pain had settled to a residual ache in his ribs. The tight sensation like his lungs were being strangled by a tremendous pressure was now absent, only present in sharp stabbing jolts when he’d take too big of a breath. Geoffrey didn’t dare move at first as he felt the extent of the damage to his body, finding an oddly tight sensation on his arm. As he blinked against the bright lights, he realized with a sickening sense of fear dropping in his stomach like a lead weight, that he was inside a hospital. The water stained ceiling stared back at him with ugly dark marks and the softer murmurs of who he recalled to be Nurse Hawkins chatting with Nurse Branagan made his blood run cold. He glimpsed an IV in his arm and most of his clothes had been replaced by the itchy thin gown that was customarily given to the hospital patients.

The epidemic is reaching its climax as both the Spanish Flu and the Skal disease are spreading fast over London ; Jonathan Reid, feeling that the mystery surrounding those disasters is about to be uncovered, suddenly loses a battle against the ever-meddling Priwen and falls into a slumber from which he doesn’t seem to rise. To the unaware Pembroke staff, strange events are slowly taking place since their colleague’s coma and, one in particular, cannot but wonder about the true nature of their fight : are Strickland and the hospital staff confronted to “just” waves of the epidemic, or… Can there be something else pulling the strings behind the curtains ?
Alternative version of the game diverging from Swansea’s fate decision, where Jonathan is unconscious for several days and Strickland, suddenly haunted by his mentor, makes worrisome discoveries and gets involved in quite distressing situations… even for a fully accomplished doctor like himself.

Dr. Jonathan Reid was not a man that believed in monsters. Not in the traditional sense anyway. He had spent many years facing down the true evils of humanity during the war. He had seen mankind rip one another to pieces at the whims of orders and the selfishness of their own nature as men. He had seen the whites of a dying man’s eyes and heard their cries for their loved ones as his hands worked quickly to try and put their intestines back inside their body cavity. Only to lose them to the inevitable, be it blood loss, shock or infection. He lost more than he saved and the pain that etched into his subconscious would follow him through the fickle landscape of his dreams and venture into the shadowy valley of his nightmares.
He did not believe in the boogeyman nor did he humor those that did. He was a man of science after all. He believed in hard facts. In the real and tangible truth of the world. It was what grounded him. What inspired and motivated him beyond any obstacles that had fallen into his path. It was something he prided himself on. And yet….
What he witnessed now was beyond any scientific comprehension. At least to a point.
