After all the batshit crazy of the last few weeks, the revelations about Kinn’s family, and Porsche’s family, and the fact that they were actually part of the same family, and all the violence that followed, Tay was glad to be doing something silly and glamorous. There was nothing like getting shot at to make one appreciate a festive distraction.
Tay’s assistant handed him the phone just as Tay was putting his shoes on, about to leave the apartment. Tay didn’t bother looking at the number - if someone was calling his assistant at this hour it had to be the publicist, who had an interest in Tay being only moderately late, instead of outrageously late.
“Good evening,” said a pleasant voice on the other end. “Khun Tay, I’m calling you as Kinn’s emergency contact–”

After Porsche stopped shaking and stumbling through every breath, after Kinn could no longer feel cold stone pressed against his skin and the doctors were done fussing over him, finally Chan dialed the number and let Kinn talk to Tay.
“Kinn,” Tay’s voice said, and it was everything, all Kinn had wanted and not dared let himself imagine for the past however many days. It was Tay, alive and well, warm like Kinn remembered, saying his name as if the world was still the same place it was a week ago.
Kinn was so glad he’d stepped away from Porsche, let the medical staff try to feed him milk tea and check his pulse again, before accepting the phone from Chan. Tay’s voice made him feel like all his walls were crumbling, like he couldn’t stay upright anymore.
