It would be days before she arrived, before she even decided she would. But Zatanna Zatara--Sorceress Supreme, Blood of Atlantis--was of consequence, and hers could be felt from all directions.
That was how they were going to do it.
That was how they were going to get rid of him.
He had five days. Five days to hold onto the happiest moment of his life. He was certain things were only going to get worse, things tended to for creatures who were born to die and did not.
So with a quiet sigh and a bit of a nod, he decided that perhaps he'd let himself pretend. Just for a little while.

But first, she needed to correct her Beloathed’s misconceptions. Lots of them. And maybe, while she's at it, she might be able to reclaim her lost family, and pick up others, along the way. Nevertheless, her country is big enough to house all of them, and then some.
OR. Pre-Morrison Talia got isekaid (vaguely) back to her old body after the events of RSOB, and she had to survive being the villainess of her own story, while saving her ex and son, and picking up discarded assassin kids. Thankfully, she is loaded and just insane enough to make things work.

Here, standing in Gotham's dirty streets with blood pooling at his feet and cars honking loudly by his ears, he simply wanted to find a place to sleep.
The city was deafening in its cries of life. Every single sound was someone proving that they were alive, and they were loud in their attempts to be heard. One car honked at a passerby and the passerby screamed a curse back, three friends were chattering happily about something, a couple was arguing, a child was wailing, doors were slamming shut and windows let out music made from within their homes.
It was not the first time Damian had been in a city, but it was the first time he stood still in one.

The witch was right, Maya managed to find the door pretty quickly. It looked surprisingly normal compared to the rest of the decor, just a simple hardwood door. Actually…that made it the most suspicious thing she’d seen so far.
She reminded herself that asking questions about magic was a terrible idea usually, and just knocked on the door.
Suren’s panicked voice answered immediately. “I’m kind of busy, Nimue! Can this--wait. Wait no you’re not…Maya!?”
Maya raised an eyebrow. “How’d you know?”
“I can…you…um. I can tell.”
“...Okay.” Maya waited in silence for a moment for Suren to open the door…then waited for another moment…then another. “Suren…”
“Hi, yes?”
“...Can I come in?”
“Uh… yes, let me just…get dressed.”
“Get dressed? Bro it’s like 4pm.”
“What? No, it can’t…oh. I see. Um. One moment. Sorry.”
Maya frowned. This was already a bad look.
