Child Noctis and his younger brother Yozora moved into another city when he was 7 years old due to their father's business. Both brothers were highly dependent on each other due to their shyness in the new environment. Because of their mute behavior with others, they were targeted for harassment. Though one kid stood up for them—a rowdy blond named Prompto that protected them. Immediately, Noctis and Prompto had a budding friendship. Yozora was jealous that Noct was the favored friend, but inserted himself whenever possible despite being two grades below.
Three years pass, and Regis took his sons back to Insomnia. Noct was happy to reunite with his family friends Ignis and Gladio. Yozora was still distraught.
Ten years later, and a 20 year old Prompto managed to weasel his way out of the dull capital of Gralea into the university of Lucis with the shittiest reputation imaginable on campus. Word spreads and Noctis's forgotten, fond blast from the past did not deter him from making enemies with the man that is determined to cause chaos for the Lucis Caelum family.

It had become a running joke that Noctis had to jump at least twice before he was allowed to speak to anyone, and countless times Stella had needed to give people a stern reminder that they were not to break character even when Noctis looked like an absolute idiot.
The guys finally get a break when the player turns off their game. Naturally, they take the time to shit-talk the terrible actions the player makes them do.
