Dimitri tried to stifle the expression that he felt flashing across his face, but Sylvain caught it, looking momentarily like it was his birthday and he had just been presented with a thousand gifts. “You did! You did get a date! Dimitri, are you serious?”

“Love,” he says evenly, fist clenching into the fabric of the curtain, “whatever it is you don’t wish me to see, I assure you, it will change nothing.” Out of the corner of his eye, he sees the healer fidget with her skirt, stuck listening to a conversation growing more personal, more intimate. He leans forward, speaking more quietly. “You know my heart is yours always.”
Felix is silent for a long moment. “Fine. Get in here before I change my mind.”
Steeling himself – no matter what state his love is in, he knows he must not show his reaction – Dimitri draws back the curtain and steps inside.
It takes his mind a moment to process what he’s seeing.
Felix sits on the edge of the bed, legs dangling over the edge, with his arms crossed sternly across his chest. He glares up furiously at Dimitri, daring him to comment. All his limbs are in tact, there’s no visible scarring, no obvious injuries. Safe. Fine.
Except for the fact that he’s no bigger than a doll.
