Carefully, Carmelita pries the painting off the wall, ignoring the yelp of protest from Barkley and the curator behind her.
Something flutters out from behind it, a scrap of paper it looks like, falling to the floor between her feet. She slots the painting back up onto its hooks, before reaching down to retrieve what she can now see is some kind of business card, stylised in the shape of a raccoon’s head. It’s midnight blue and silvery, and when she flips it over, there’s a chicken scratch scrawl on the back.
A fake all along. Try asking Mr Curator how he affords such fancy watches.
Carmelita’s breath catches in her throat. Not a business card. A calling card.
“Find that raccoon,” she says urgently.
