Summary
Ronan groaned. "So I’m just ancient and my joints can’t handle kneeling and sifting through eight years of random shit.”
“You’re not ancient.”
“I am. My bones are disintegrating as we speak.”
“Baby, if you’re ancient, then I’m, like, the crypt keeper.”
Ronan shook his head, not lifting it from the table. “No, you’re too pretty. It’s just me. Age is terrible to me.”

Summary
Tugging the covers down a little further, Adam kissed Ronan’s cheek, then his lips. “Forecast says it’s supposed to rain later, so we should head to the overlook soon.” He poked at Ronan’s shoulder insistently. “I packed a picnic.”
As much as Ronan wanted to plead for five more minutes, for Adam to get in bed with him and put his hands and his mouth on every inch of Ronan like he’d done the night before, he knew better than to interfere with Adam’s picnic plans. He kissed his boyfriend and wriggled out from under the covers. “Alright, alright, I’m up.”
No.
Not his boyfriend.
Not his fiancé, either.
His husband.

“Are you always this self-sacrificing, or just with me?” Getting on his knees, Adam looked directly at Ronan.
“What?”
“Like, would you stop being a pain in the ass about letting me look after you if I were your boyfriend and not just some guy you hook up with after hockey?”
With a breath of a laugh, Ronan shook his head. “You’re not just some guy.”

Summary
Gansey was the first to speak, nudging Ronan’s shoe with his own. “I see you’ve made quite the entrance. A triumphant return to your ancestral home.”
“Why are you like this?” Smiling, Ronan opened his eyes; all three of the others were looming over him, various levels of worry on their faces. Unfortunately, this sort of thing had become relatively commonplace for Adam, but it had been years since Gansey or Blue had dealt with a passed-out Ronan. “If one of you feeds me pizza like I’m a baby bird, I should be able to get up on my own in a bit.”
“You do realize that birds chew the food for the babies and spit it into their mouths, right?” Blue dropped into a crouch and mimed the act. “But if it’s what you want…”

Summary
“Dad?”
The word was unmistakable, even in Ronan’s sleep-roughened voice. Gansey pulled his hand back and clamped it over his mouth; he knew he’d start to cry if he said anything, probably would even if he didn’t speak at all. Chest burning, he held his breath and waited a second to make sure that Ronan hadn’t fully woken before carefully picking his way through the model town. He slipped into the bathroom, put his back to the closed door, and slid down so that he was curled as tightly as possible, a mirror to Ronan’s position on the bed. Resting his head on his knees, he took deep, increasingly ragged breaths through his nose, clenching his jaw and squeezing his eyes shut.
He couldn’t fix this.

Summary
Ronan was dying.
Okay, so he wasn’t /dying/ dying, but he had a fever and a sore throat and he’d lost his voice so he couldn’t even bitch about it, so he was basically dying. He was, however, sick enough for Adam to call in a favor with one of the ENTs at the hospital to get Ronan seen before the weekend. It was also entirely possible that Adam’s decision wasn’t related to how sick Ronan was and more to how annoying he was.

Summary
Even though Adam knew what Ronan would be wearing, it didn’t mean that it didn’t take his breath away. Ronan was in all black, the delicate pattern woven into the material of his tux catching the light when he moved. The look in his eyes, the curling smile on his lips as he made his way through the line--he knew he was hot, and everything about him was accentuated by his confidence. He looked like one of the investors or hotshot surgeons or CEOs that made up most of the attendees, not like the son of a carpenter from Virginia who barely graduated high school. Adam was very into this fancy version of his boyfriend.

Summary
Ronan Lynch is not made for this kind of scene. There are people wearing Blue Sargent-approved outfits every which way and people taking selfies with their chins cupped in their hands, Korean celebrity style.
Ronan Lynch is made for dark bars where the tabletops are always a little sticky and you have to hunt down your server to get your check and when you do, they’re annoyed like they don’t even want the tip. Ronan Lynch is made for rural Virginia and hauling hay, doing manual labor in the outdoors, letting freckles pile on top of freckles.
Ronan Lynch is not made for anything Adam Parrish is made for, but he’s here anyway, so there’s that.
tl;dr: post-MI, Ronan accompanies Adam and Fletcher to an outdoor music festival at Harvard. His throat hurts, but he doesn't want to make a fuss after all the shit he's put Adam through. It doesn't go well.

Summary
Taking a deep breath, Ronan replied, “You know how I’m always saying that I know what someone who needs to go to the hospital looks like?”
Of course Adam did; Ronan insisted that after five years as a paramedic between two different states, he knew a capital-s Sick person when he saw one. He would pull that line any time that he didn’t think he needed to go to the hospital and any time that he thought Adam did. Funny how it always worked out that way. “Yes...”
“Yeah, I look like someone who needs to go to the hospital.”

Summary
Adam was pulling on his Harvard sweatshirt when Ronan said, “I wanna wear that one.”
Eyes narrowed in question, Adam lowered his arms but kept them in the sleeves. “It’s...my sweatshirt?”
“Yeah, but it’s my sick sweatshirt,” Ronan said, as if it were an obvious explanation.
Narrowing his eyes, Adam slowly pulled the sweatshirt off, but draped it over his arm instead of handing it to Ronan. “That’s like, not a thing.”
Ronan shrugged, still holding his hand out, now making grabby hands at Adam. “Yes, it is. It’s soft and it smells like you and you had me wear it that one time I got super sick and,” he said the next part a little quieter, “I’ve kind of been wearing it whenever I don’t feel good since.”

Summary
There were fifteen minutes left of the two-hour lecture on strokes when Ronan sent Adam a dickpic on goddamn Facebook Messenger. To be fair, Adam probably shouldn’t have had Facebook open on his computer at all, but how else was he supposed to send frantic mid-lecture messages to his classmates? He’d just sent one to Dani about the Circle of Willis when Ronan’s message popped up, absolutely derailing any trains of thought besides ‘boyfriend hot’ and ‘I’m in the front row oh god oh fuck’.
---
It's summer semester of PA school and Adam has three group projects, two exams, and one feverish boyfriend who keeps sending selfies while he's in class. He can't decide which of these is going to kill him faster, but no matter what, he's in for quite a week.

Summary
Ronan made his way into the kitchen, blanket around his shoulders like a cape. “That’s quiet a fetching look on you,” Gansey commented, and Ronan rolled his eyes.
“It was either this or one of you coming upstairs to spoon-feed me like a Victorian child with tuberculosis.” Pressing a kiss to his fingertips, Ronan touched them to Opal’s head, smiling at her as she wriggled in her seat to look at him. He sat down beside Adam, dragged his chair as close to him as possible, and dropped his head on his husband’s shoulder.
Raising an eyebrow, Blue dragged the words out as she said, “That is oddly specific.”
“You volunteering? Because I’ll go right back up those stairs.” The fact that his voice was absolutely wrecked did wonders for the deadpan delivery; Adam and Blue laughed, Gansey widened his eyes and tried to hide a smile, and Opal grinned because she was a baby and the people around her looked happy.
---
Sure, Ronan's sick and Adam injured himself in the most embarrassing way possible, but they can still manage taking care of ten-month-old Opal, right?
Blue and Gansey think otherwise.

Ronan put a hand on Adam’s chest before he could close in for a kiss, shaking his head. “You don’t want to kiss me.”
“You’re not gonna get me sick, dumbass, I already had it.”
“Gansey says that you shouldn’t say that in front of me,” Opal piped up, squirming to be put down.
Opening the car door, Ronan stepped back so Adam could deposit Opal in her car seat. “Gansey doesn’t get to give parenting advice until he has a kid of his own.”

Summary
Ronan held up the thermometer. “Humor me.”
Adam sighed and let Ronan not only put the thermometer in his mouth, but hold it in place for the ten seconds or so it took to read. All the while, he looked at his boyfriend, and while it took a moment to place, he finally figured out Ronan’s expression: eyebrows drawn together, lips pursed, eyes focused on Adam’s mouth. In any other circumstance, it might have looked like anger, but—
Worry. Ronan was worried. About him.

“Lynch.” The firmness in Adam’s voice stopped Ronan in his tracks. “I spent ten hours on the drive here thinking about getting to touch you. I haven’t seen you in a goddamn month. Roll over and I’ll hold you from behind so you can’t get your germs all over me.”
“That’s not how it—”
“I swear to god, Ronan.” Adam started to force his way onto the bed. “You’re not gonna win this.”
