Levi reached out and slid Hange’s wounded hand into his palm. Gently, to avoid causing further pain, he dragged his thumb over her bandaged knuckles in a circular soothing caress. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and released, his composure now reinstated.
“We’ll make it out of this.” Just hold on.
In a terrible twist of fate, Hange is blown up in the thunderspear explosion rather than Levi, who instead takes the role of patching her up in the forest after escaping the Jaegerists.

But his body was warm underneath her touch. And as she lay her hand discreetly on his chest, the heart below her palm thumped. It was the same, familiar rhythm she heard all the time as she lay against him during the nights when sleep evaded the two of them.
Still steady. Still beating.
And it was in that moment when Hange swore: No matter what- even if it cost her own life- she was going to make sure that Levi would stay alive.

All those times they would ramble about research while he just sat there and listened. The rare moments he smiled, his kindness and compassion.
