Summary
The balance of power has shifted. Ardus Kaine, the last of the Imperial Grand Moffs, must make a daring play with the Empire's fading strength—or the Empire may fly apart entirely!
On Coruscant, Leia Organa Solo is crafting a new galactic ruling document to be ratified by the rival New Republic, while General Wedge Antilles prepares to take the fight to the heart of the Empire from the bridge of the captured Super Star Destroyer Lusankya.
As more systems look toward the rising New Republic, the Imperial Security Bureau conducts a brutal repression campaign to prevent or punish their defection, while the Imperial Inquisitorius grapples with the re-emergence of the Jedi on the galactic stage. Luke Skywalker and his new Jedi order—including his newly adopted nephew Kyp Durron—are a prominent threat that the remaining Inquisitors cannot ignore.
Amid this dangerous dance of diplomacy and death, the greatest threat of all is one they cannot see: An insidious shadow from the distant past, determined to subject the galaxy to its capricious whims!

Summary
Having re-read the Wraith trilogy during the pandemic (and with a lot of free time), I wondered what the series would look like from the POV of Dorset Konnair - the aggressively fast A-Wing pilot with lots of tattoos. Now it’s getting into the Thrawn trilogy. (Part 3, on the aftermath of Selaggis, ended with a hook about Thrawn and C’Baoth.)
Part 4 includes my idea of what the Wraiths were doing then, alongside the A-Wing pilots who are expanded from their novel depiction or original characters. The main three each get a bit of romantic subplot in this, but that’s kept in the background compared to the action. There isn’t graphic violence, but the dark nature of the war is an element in this even more than Parts 2-3.
Since I took a pause after Part 3, this opens with a list of the characters and some “the story so far” details in the first chapters. This whole thing is very niche around the Star Wars stories I enjoy most, and there’ll be some obscure references to the X-Wing books/comics and other Star Wars works as well as callbacks to my own Parts 1-3. I usually explain that in the chapter notes.
Credit to Aaron Allston, Michael Stackpole, and Timothy Zahn, without whom this wouldn’t exist.

Running a rebel cell takes money. A lot of it. It's an easy and obvious weakness to pick up on. And following the money leads to Kenth and Sena.
Being audited is hard for anyone. For a pregnant, lying rebel, it's ten times worse.

30 YEARS OF THRAWN! To celebrate the anniversary of Heir to the Empire and the release of Thrawn Ascendancy, I present: Tales from the Thrawn Campaign. In the vein of Shadows of the Empire and Clone Wars, Tales chronicles the missing month between Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, detailing the adventures of Luke, Han, and Leia as they scramble to stop Thrawn’s onslaught:
The Katana battle is over. While Republic forces won the day, it is a hollow victory—the Empire has outraced them to the famous fleet, and the Dreadnaughts are now under Thrawn’s command. Worse yet, the battle’s aftermath revealed the lynchpin of his strategy for victory: clone soldiers, a limitless supply to man his new armada.
On Coruscant, Leia attempts to shore up the Republic’s diplomatic front while awaiting the birth of her Jedi twins. Meanwhile, Luke and Han must undertake a series of dangerous missions behind enemy lines, hoping to slow Thrawn’s war machine. Their ultimate goal: discover the source of his clone army—and destroy it.
Over it all like a shadow hangs the Dark Jedi C’baoth, self-declared Heir to the Empire, newly risen in power, and obsessed with claiming Leia’s twins for himself…to mold in his own insane image!
