But when Missa finally came back from one of his neverending work trips and ever-so-obliviously suggested the family have a beach day, how could Phil say no? He was feeling increasingly guilty that his two children never really did anything normal with both of their dads, and plus, there was hardly a cloud in the sky. She trusted Wilbur with her life; he had been the one to raise her ever since her father threw himself entirely into his work to cope with the loss of her mother and put the burden of parenting onto a caretaker android, Wilbur.
"I'm sorry, Papi; I didn't mean to worry you anymore!" Talullah cried into the front of Wilbur's sweater.
Wilbur only hugged her tighter, hushing her with soft-spoken reassurances, telling her nothing she could do would ever upset him. He lifts his head, resting his chin on her head, scanning, and taking in their surroundings, all while a small circle flashing red light on his temple continues to blink, much to his annoyance. He sighs, closing his eyes, and gently runs his fingers through her thick hair, mindful of knots.

Wilbur took a deep breath, like he was trying to hold himself together.
“Well, Lulah. What do you think?” He asked, trying and failing to force some joy into his voice.
“It’s nice.” She replied quietly. It felt like they were both acting, pretending they were okay when neither of them were. They’d been through the same thing, why couldn’t they just be themselves?
Her papa was trying to hold himself together for her, he wanted to be the father she deserved.
Tallulah just wanted to be his sunshine. She couldn’t allow herself to wallow. Her papa already had a long list of problems, and Tallulah didn’t want to be one of them.
“I’m glad you like it, honey. We'll be able to make it nicer soon." Tallulah knew he had other things on his plate. The last thing on his mind was apartment redesign. But she smiled and nodded anyway. It was easier to keep up the façade.or:
Tallulah is struggling to recover from what happened, and Wilbur seems to be going through the exact same thing.
