Ever since the Guardians of the Galaxy had breached Earth’s atmosphere and swept Nova back to the stars, Peter had noticed it. Ever since that morning on the rooftop, when he was struggling to find the words against that aching something in his chest, he hadn’t stopped noticing it.
Sam was distracted.
It wasn’t his typical, mind running a mile a minute, mouth too slow and fumbling to make sense of anything, distracted state. This was different.
Sam was a little more distant, always the last to arrive and furthest to sit. He was reactive, blinking back into focus when Peter called his name or Ava snapped her fingers, never one to start a conversation anymore.
He was quiet.
