There is a tendency for intelligent people to seek out other intelligent people; it is natural to look for those like yourself after all. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Ishigami Senkuu and Saiki Kusuo became friends. Despite their differences and personality, Saiki could always keep up with Senkuu's ramblings on aerospace engineering and Senkuu could always commiserate with Saiki about the antics of the idiots around them.
As such, it should be no surprise they inevitably find one another after the end of the world as they know it.
This makes rebuilding civilisation both much easier and much harder.

Saiki and Kaidou have been friends for a long time. The longer they were friends, the more Kaidou forgot about his past. His past was traumatizing. There was a whole outbreak of these aliens called "Nocturnals" going around in Michigan while Kaidou lived in America. A horrible experience, really.
Kaidou thought he could forget about everything that happened. From the Nocturnals, to Diego's death. He wanted to not remember any of it. He knew he would one day forget it all.
He didn't realize a simple smile could prove him wrong.

Summary
What was considered normal? Aren had no idea but he knew he had been failing to achieve it for the entirety of his short life. A fact that his mother wouldn't let him forget and even when his parents leave him on his own her voice still tells him that he's different. That he's unnatural and wrong.
Was normality something he could even achieve? The tingle of a sixth sense told him no and the budding of new and old issues would keep him chained to the abnormal parts of himself. He wanted to be different from who he was but he knew it wasn't possible no matter how hard he tried. Not even having normal friends would change the fact that he was unnatural.
