In the beginning, such a thing would’ve terrified him, but now?
Now Kenta just felt hyped at the challenge.
Or at least, he did until Ryuga spoke. “Set up a fire, we’re stopping here for today.”
OR: Kenta wants to prove he's strong, but his attempts almost get him killed. Thankfully, Ryuga's there to help him when he needs it, and teach him something important about self-respect.

For a second, the OTA trio got scared. The voice sounded so…cold. So angry.
They almost couldn’t believe it when they turned to see Kenta was the one who’d spoken.

“Why…couldn’t…we take…the train again?” Yu whined as they walked.
Kenta stopped and took in a breath of fresh air, looking content. “It’s better this way. This way we train while traveling as well.”
“I’m tired and my feet hurt!” Tithi cried. “I wanna take a break!”
Kenta’s eyes narrowed. “We’re going to be sleeping out in the woods overnight, we need to at least get a bit farther, or this is going to take more days.”
Tithi gasped. “O-Overnight!? But…I love sleeping in a bed now! I thought we were gonna stay at a hotel or something!”
“A hotel?” Kenta raised an eyebrow. “That’s such a waste of money! Besides sleeping out in the wild acts as training too.”
“But…why do we have to train all the time?” Tithi sulked.
--OR: Yu decides he, Kenta and Tithi should go on a trip together as a bonding experience. But Kenta can't seem to let go of the past.

“Kenchi, why weren’t you having fun with me today!?” Yu exclaimed sadly. “We used to hang out all the time, and now it’s like…” His hands balled into fists. “Like you can’t wait to get away from me and the others. Just waiting for the next tournament.”
“That’s not…that’s not true.” Kenta protested weakly, sitting up as well.
Yu glared at him. “Then why don’t you smile anymore!? Why…” Tears burned his eyes. “Why do you keep leaving us!?”
Kenta, to his credit, did look guilty. He refused to meet Yu’s gaze and instead stared at his lap, his own hands balling into fists.
“It’s just…hard, to have fun I guess.”
OR: It's been a few months since the battle with Nemesis, Kenta can't seem to let go, Yu shows him that maybe he doesn't have to.

Though Kenta tried hard to keep his face unreadable, Gingka could still spot something cold and sharp in his eyes at those words.
“…Yeah, I did.” Kenta told him stiffly. “We were friends.”
“That’s great!” Ryuto said excitedly. “Maybe you could-“
“Ryuga’s dead.”

OR: A few months after Nemesis' defeat, Ryuto comes in search of his brother. Maybe he missed his chance to get to know Ryuga, but at least he can get to know Kenta (and maybe exchange some Ryuga stories with him along the way)
