Hiram is truly evil. So evil that he willingly sacrifices not only his daughter but anyone who gets in his way.
To Hiram: He doesn't send Jughead or Veronica to be slaughtered, it was done of their own volition. They decided to do that. Their choices lead them to that outcome. Except, his game of psychological warfare in the form of systematic torture and corruption of the town drove them to do it.

Based on some dialogue clues, it seems like around a month of time passes between those episodes. I’m filling in the blanks on how these two lovebirds went from “You can just ask me to be your real boyfriend” to “You and me? Cohabitating?” So. Enjoy some fun, flirty, sexy jabitha! Zero angst. Mild smut.

The next few scenes take place during 5x17 after Tabitha makes Betty and Jughead work together to solve the Lonely highway murders.
OR: Jughead realizes he needs to get his shit together and that means coming to terms with whatever Betty means to him.
