On the very edge of a town, there is a lake, clear and blue, like a drop that fell from the heavens. Low branches of old willow trees hide it from inattentive eyes. The lake is a safe home for the little yellow duck who lives there. She looks like a common duck, if you ignore an upright feather on her head and the unusual pattern on her feet. She is, however, anything but ordinary. You see, this duck was once a human. Right next to the lake, off to the side, there is a cottage. Not too large, not too small, just big enough for two people. Only one person lives there, however. He is a writer with an extraordinary power to turn his stories into reality, though it has been years since he used this talent last. Despite his unusual gift, he strives to have as normal of a life as one could have.
Years after the town of Golden Crown is saved from Drosselmeyer"s curse, a traveller comes looking for a duck that was once a girl. Fakir is determined to protect Ahiru from this person the only way he knows how. He is going to write a new story for her.

Summary
Thanks to a multi-cause multiversal snafu, people from various works of fiction are being deposited into what would otherwise be a universe indistinguishable from real life beginning in late-2016. Trustworthy natives (including the self-insert characters of the writing circle, who are outnumbered by original characters) are originally tasked with making sure these "displacees" have a place to live, but will end up taking on additional responsibilities ... especially when some displacees decide they don"t like the arrangements in their new universe. Some will jump at the call to defend their new homes. Others will refuse it. Many will not be called at all. And they all have places in this world.

Once upon a time there was a man who died. The man’s work was the writing and telling of stories. But he could not defy death. The last story he was working on was about a brave and handsome Prince who battles a crafty Raven. But now it seems the story and their battle will go on for eternity. “I’m sick and tired of this!” cried the Raven. “I’m sick and tired of this!” cried the Prince as well. The Raven escaped from the pages of the story and the Prince pursued the fell creature. In the end the Prince shattered his own heart to seal the Raven away. This power, which had been granted solely to him, was nevertheless forbidden.
The shattered shards of the Prince’s heart scattered throughout the town and sought places to settle in the hearts of people who had a void in them. Without his heart, the Prince was cursed to wander without feeling, or even remembering who he was. Inside the town the story and time, which had become entangled, ceased to move forward. Then one day, the story started writing itself…
