That startles Dream- no one ever asks what it’s like to be him. They just assume. Jealous gazes and cold shoulders mixed with reverence and a healthy dose of fear. They see him as his future wielding the crown, as his ancestors and their rules.
“Lonely,” he says at last, spinning the handle of his sword in his hand. “I have no siblings and my mother died when I was young- although I assume you knew that?” XD nods, and Dream does the same. “Right, well, after that my father has always been distant. He hires tutors and sends messengers and-” he cuts himself off.

Dream sighs, both tired and awestruck at the mere concept of what Sapnap insinuates. “Something… Something beyond this. Beyond kingly duties and expectations, beyond having to be proper every moment of the day, acting like one is untouchable, perfect. More than being frowned at if you don’t meet the requirements. There’s got to be more, Sapnap, than just the same walls and the same balls and the same scornful, stuffy people, more than a lethargic, lackluster routine. There’s got to be more.”

But for some reason the pirates of the flying ship The Syndicate still saw it as a good idea. With a captain who was ready to sell Dream away, the young prince has to find a way to escape or get Captain Technoblade to set him free. Either way Dream would have to stay on the ship with the weirdly nice crew.
