Summary
Rather than returning to his family and figuring out how to stop the Apocalypse, Five has stumbled onto the eastern shores of a people lost to the ages. More precisely, four harvests have passed since he fell through the headman’s roof. It happened on Samhain Eve and, when the heavens tore, he appeared to the tribe as a strangely dressed elderman — youth restored — struggling to get free of a desolate land. The thinning of the veil is brief but deafening. Welcomed among the Picts as Flett, by the time Five’s honoured as a Wolfwalker, he’s instrumental to the community’s survival.
A prickling chill overtakes Five as salty air floods his senses. He opens his eyes and jolts upright. Fuck. He’s on a ship. A Norsemen ship.

Also known as The Boy flees his post-apocalyptic hellscape before the Commission finds him but he still can't acorn. Angst ensues. Deus ex machina saves the day. Vengeance is had. A family remains.
References to mistreatment aren't explicit but chapters 9 & 11 are written from a couple of assholes' perspectives.

Not accounting for a dashing prince of chaos, Five returns the day of Dad's funeral with a saga to share and a few new family members. Klaus might drop dead with happiness. Meanwhile, the Norns show Variant L.1130 he isn't meant to cause pain and suffering or death — he's there to help a gaggle of delinquent orphans achieve their best selves all while unravelling Project Oblivion.

“Mobius…” he managed to whisper.
“You keep saying that. How do you know my name? I don’t think I know yours. Is this your first day?”
The world finally came back into focus. Loki started to register where he was. A hard wooden chair. In the Archives. In the TVA. He felt fabric grasped between his fingers and looked down to see he was clutching Mobius’ sleeve. The other man stood over him with a concerned look on his face.

And that's how they ended up here in Midgard, face-to-face with the Avengers of this timeline -- and the timeline's Loki, too. After a hard-won invitation home, the Lokis, Sylvie, and Mobius have to adjust to the calm, peaceful life in Asgard, a stark difference from the chaos they've grown so used to.
