Summary
Rey is not a hero - not with everything she's done. She has taken too many lives, tortured and killed more people than she can comprehend. She knows she's beyond saving. But when a masked smuggler steals her captive and makes one of her Stormtroopers defect, she finds she can't help looking further into the rebels.
Poe Dameron is not having a good day. He got captured, which would have sucked on its own, but now he's also getting tortured. When alarms start going off, he finds an oddly familiar smuggler and a freshly defected Stormtrooper have come to his aid. He's been forcing himself to keep going, but he finds he's not the same as before his capture.
FN-2187 didn't like hurting people. FN-2187 was faulty, he knew. But given the opportunity to save a rebel pilot, and escape, he finds a strange lack of doubt. The smuggler may be unpleasant, but the pilot is strangely tolerable. And the universe has started to sing to him - all he has to worry about now is the Sith Lord hunting him down.

Finn has followed Commander Dameron to the Resistance, and it's nothing like he expected. He's not thrown immediately into an interrogation chamber; General Leia Organa does not incinerate him with her glare; and he's supposed to call Commander Dameron 'Poe'.
And that is not the end of the surprises.
Poe is glad to be back with the Resistance, to shuck the costume of a First Order officer forever, to have brought out all of his TIE pilots and bright, brave, beautiful Finn with his brilliant mind, to have rescued Rey and found the map to Skywalker. He thinks he'll be settling easily back into his role as the leader of the Resistance's fighter pilots.
There are some surprises in store for him, too.
