Tai sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose; she had hoped it wasn't going to be like this.
"No pep talk, I promise. It's just... I'm a little worried about you, that's all. It's been a couple of days and you've hardly spoken a single word to Jackie since... everything."
Well, that seemed to have gotten the ball rolling, judging by the way Shauna's brow furrowed and her voice raised.
"Yeah, well, last time we really talked, she almost fucking froze to death, so forgive me if I don't exactly feel like risking that again."
Or: Tai does her best to nudge Shauna towards reconciliation, post-Jacksicle.

They're far from the others, but Van still whispers. Intimate.
Tai scrunches her face up, "Of course, I feel bad." Tai whispers back. Something in her tone that they both hear, but neither want to say. Doubt. Not the whole truth but some of the truth. A part of her feels bad.
This takes a lot of trust. There's a lot of trust building between the two of them anyways. Tai knows that if they confess this secret, then something has to change between the both of them. An alliance that not only comes with love but fear of being apart. The acknowledgement that if they both are hungry, then what does that mean for them?
A love that has no bound of skin, goes deeper than bread. Tai swallows.

She grips her tighter against her chest so she doesn’t have to look at her yet. “Did you sleep?” Van asks. Tai almost laughs. She’s not the one who just walked all night through waist-deep snow.
“Not really,” Tai admits, but when she pulls back to look at Van she realizes that maybe that’s what she wanted to hear, was waiting to. She’s beautiful like this, flushed cold and scarred and with her teeth out, smiling at Tai even though, even despite.

Taissa tries to be perfect in everything. She tries really hard at school and at the soccer pitch, and wants the most to meet everyone’s expectations, sometimes forgetting that she’s not a robot after all. She ends up having bad times with accepting herself and her feelings, trying to deny them as long as possible.
Van has bad relationships with parents, constantly experiencing discomfort and anxiety. She deals with an amount of hate and misunderstanding from society, and faces a lot of internal barriers which don’t let her love, and let herself be loved, her ending up avoiding facing her feelings and mask them as something else.
Events take place from the start of the school year of 95-96, this is basically head-canonical backstory to relationships between Taissa and Van, and is compeltely Taivan-centered.
