Summary
“Why,” I say, gesturing aimlessly. I’m referring to the entire thing—Simon Snow, wearing a hoodie and a smile when he clearly hasn’t been awake for longer than an hour—but he glances to either side of him and starts talking about shopping carts.
“Figured it’d be easier to get the frames around this way. I was going to unlock it from the inside. Thanks for saving me the trouble.” He grins down at me, and I clench my fists around the ladder rungs.
“Fantastic,” I say. “Just stand there, would you? I’m going to hand you things.”
“Works for me,” Simon says. I climb the six rungs back to the ground and reach for the first frame.
It’s awkward, but I’m tall enough to hoist the frames to where Simon can grab their tops and haul them out through the trapdoor. He stacks them on top of the carts’ wire baskets—they’re too big to fit into the basket itself.
I’m sweating by the end of it, but I also get the pleasure of watching Simon’s arms and shoulders flex under the weight of the frames, so it seems a fair trade.It's Baz's last summer working at Ebb's bookstore--which means they have the rest of the summer to indulge in their hopeless crush on their straight coworker.

One minute, they had been playing a simple game of D&D- a fun chance to play with magic that wasn’t real, in a world where being nonbinary or having wings and a tail was seen as an unquestionable aspect of some people’s lives, and the next, Penny was trying some new souped-up spell to try and make the game “feel more real.” Agatha had already started to protest, and Simon, too, arguing that their house was a magic-free zone, but it was too late. Penny just had to try, and now here they all are, no longer in Simon’s flat, but instead seated around a table in a dingy tavern and all shocked into speechlessness.
