Summary
It’s about as far out of Stede’s comfort zone as he’s ever been.
Which – considering in the last two years he’s moved out of his family home and moved in with his girlfriend and boyfriend, it’s a pretty big statement.
He can’t bear to walk home in one of the outfits Mary had picked out for him, but when he gets back to the house Stede rushes straight into the bedroom.
Izzy and Eddie are both at work, which gives Stede the space to lay each item across the bed sheets, eyeing them up in the new light. They look different in his own home as opposed to Mary’s, more like clothes he could own rather than a borrowed disguise from a loved one.
“What the hell am I doing…” He shakes his head in disbelief, but he’s already feeling the trim of the fabric, marvelling at its softness underneath the pads of his fingertips.
~’*’~
Stede considers his relationship with gender a little more closely.

“I want Izzy to pierce my ear,” Stede blurted out one morning while he and Edith were getting dressed for the day. “Do you think he would do that for me?”
“Yeah babe, I know he would,” Edith replied, glancing at Stede in the mirror she was hunched over to apply her eyeliner. “He did all mine ya know.”

Summary
Ed was worried sick about the impending conversation, Stede left his wife and began a relationship with two men, one of which was a person Ed no longer wanted to be. And Izzy, he had gone to great lengths to stop being a woman, and to her knowledge had never been in any type of relationship with one. Izzy has always been so devoted, but would this change things? Was he only devoted to Blackbeard? She didn’t know if she could handle losing either of them and had thus pushed this conversation back and back and back until she almost couldn’t take it anymore.

Summary
“Hey, uh, Jim?” Stede asked tentatively, wringing his hands.
“Sí?” they asked over their shoulder while inputting…something into the computer, though Stede had no idea what it was.
“Can I…well, that’s to say, may I ask you something? Can you tell me about something?”
“Sure, what’s up?”
Stede looked around. It was empty, save for Lucius scrolling on his phone at the front desk.
“I have a… gender question?” The words felt foreign in his mouth.

Summary
The realization that this is a ghost very suddenly and intensely hits Ed all at once, and he covers his eyes, keeping his space safe. He’s brave enough to peep through his fingers, and sees that the ghost has moved slightly backwards, as if they noticed Ed’s fear.
“Don’t be scared.” He hears. It’s a full voice, not hollow or booming or warbling, like Ed would expect from someone undead. It’s a familiar accent in a kind tone, and Ed’s heart lurches into his throat.
“What are you doing?” He manages to ask them.
The ghost shrugs. “I live here.” They smile— a small, sweet thing.
Ed wants to laugh. He thinks for a moment, and supposes it’s fair. “Me too.”

Summary
“I don’t really think of you as, like, one thing or the other. You’re just Stede to me.”
“Just Stede.” His voice cracks a little. He feels oddly tearful.
Ed sees him. Completely.
“Just Stede. With your fishy merperson tail and your glittery scales alllll the way up here, and your fancy trident and your swishy blond hair.”
“That’s weirdly validating.”

Summary
“Like a mermaid. Or a merman. Or a merperson.”
As soon as the words had left Ed’s mouth, they’d slammed into Stede with such force that he couldn’t help smiling. It’s the best he’s felt— ever, maybe, when someone was talking to him, and he doesn’t even have the words for why. Hearing Ed describe him in his vision this way— it really just felt like he saw him. Moreso, even, than the first time Ed met him— Stede felt seen, felt perceived, felt— felt known.
“Wow,” Stede had breathed, and he still remembers the surging bolts of incredible, burning feeling that had coursed through him as he processed it all. Merperson. Person. Just a person. He really couldn’t suppress his smile; it had been years in coming. “How’d I look?”

Summary
“Dad,” Alma cuts Stede off, though her eyes lift up to Ed, and he gets the hint.
“Got it,” he replies, taking Stede by the arm. “Let’s go, Kermie. Bedtime.”
He blows kisses to his children, they both call goodnights and happy Halloweens and I love yous to them, met with a chorus of echoing replies of, “I love you, Daddy!” and “Happy Halloween!” and “Goodnight!” that makes Ed smile all the way up the stairs.
Still. He doesn’t forget his goal.
The second their bedroom door is closed, Ed locks it with a snap, and Stede’s already on him, taking Ed by the shoulders and leading with his hips to slam him up into it, fingers threading up into his hair.

Summary
Ed Teach, skeptic, and Stede Bonnet, believer, host a popular web series together: To The Ends of the Earth. Together, the two best friends investigate "haunted" locations to prove whether or not ghosts are real. Lately, though, it’s seemed that that proof is even closer than they think.
Between increasingly powerful hauntings, maintaining and producing their web series, and navigating their hidden feelings for each other, Ed and Stede may just find evidence that there’s more out there than meets the (human) eye.

Summary
“Bonnet,” Izzy says, loud and clear, and Stede blinks into staring up at him. “Are you with me?”
Stede jerks his head in a nod. His jaw hurts, teeth aching from being clenched together; he tells Izzy, “I want to wait for Ed to get here.”
“I’m not sure you have much of a choice,” Izzy argues. At Stede’s heated glare, he asks, “Well, what the fuck did you two think was going to happen, you coming in like this?”

Summary
Ed swipes their key card in the door of the honeymoon suite, shoves it in, and then whirls on Stede before they can even think about moving.
“I have to carry you in,” Ed says, a statement of fact and a rush of heat. “I carry you over the threshold. It’s my job.”
It’s my job.
That leads Stede into the logical question of, “Well, then, what’s my job?”
Ed cups their chin in his hand, thumb scraping over the bronze hair of the false beard they’re wearing. He directs his newlywed’s head upwards, just a bit, until their eyes meet. Even in the hotel hallway lighting, he’s so perfectly handsome, his dark eyes bright, his love written across every inch of his beautiful face.
“Your job, now,” Ed explains to them, “is to let me take care of you.”

Summary
“You’re not going to hurt me, are you?”
“That depends on just how brave you are,” Ed answers.
He escorts Stede by the hand, assisting them in taking one step, then another, up the tiny painted stool that takes them up to the open box. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book, but it’s a classic for a reason: people just love to see it.
Besides, Ed loves it a bit, himself. What stage magician doesn’t enjoy sawing somebody in half?
